Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Egill Skallagrimsson (ranked 6285 p4p, 497 weight class) and Russell Phillips (ranked 6560 p4p, 504 weight class). Russell Phillips will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Russell Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skallagrimsson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Phillips pinned against the cage. Phillips gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Phillips tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Phillips digs a right hand underneath Skallagrimsson's ribcage. Skallagrimsson let out a lung full of air as it connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Skallagrimsson holds on and takes a little breather.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Skallagrimsson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
