Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Carlos Escobar (ranked 4023 p4p, 418 weight class) and Chunzhi Zheng (ranked 3659 p4p, 381 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Carlos Escobar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chunzhi Zheng! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Escobar. Those never looked like landing. Escobar misses with a jab, cross combination.
Zheng with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Escobar to score with a decent uppercut. Zheng tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Escobar manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Escobar misses with a two punch combination.
Decent striking displayed by Escobar there. A punch combination from Escobar misses. Zheng throws a right hand that Escobar ducks under and follows up with a left that Escobar also avoids with ease. Zheng looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Escobar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Zheng moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Zheng dives in for a single leg takedown but Escobar sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Zheng closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Escobar tries to break free but Zheng pushes him back against the cage. Zheng stalling.
Escobar is trying to break free. Escobar working hard to break the clinch. Escobar has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Zheng is trying to pull guard but Escobar turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Juan Carlos Escobar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chunzhi Zheng.
That's one minute gone in the round. Escobar wants to break the clinch but can't.
Escobar is trying to force a seperation but Zheng has the dominant position. Zheng prevents Escobar from breaking the clinch. Zheng tries to pull guard but Escobar won't allow it.
Zheng has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Escobar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Zheng is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Escobar is defending well for now. Zheng has Escobar pressed against the cage, preventing Escobar from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Zheng escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zheng uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Escobar. Escobar cracks Zheng with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Zheng shoots in and drives through. Escobar sprawls well. No joy there for Zheng, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Zheng closes the distance and clinches up with Escobar, looking for a takedown. Zheng pushes Escobar against the cage but Escobar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A big left from Escobar misses. Zheng gets a clinch. The referee calls for Zheng to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Escobar is trying to break the clinch but Zheng is controlling him. Zheng wants to take the fight to the mat but Escobar manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Escobar wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Zheng has him pressed against the cage. Escobar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Escobar tries to bum rush Zheng with a series of wild strikes but Zheng uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Zheng takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Zheng closes the distance and clinches up with Escobar, looking for a takedown. Zheng pushes Escobar against the cage but Escobar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Zheng looks winded! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Escobar throws a right and a left that Zheng avoids nicely. Escobar drops Zheng with a left and a right! Oh, Zheng is hurt - Escobar dives into side control looking to finish!
Zheng is rocked!
It looks like Chunzhi Zheng has been cut. Zheng sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Zheng is still in real trouble! Can Escobar finish him? Escobar decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Escobar connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Zheng covering up! Escobar comes in with a big uppercut and Zheng goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Juan Carlos Escobar!
