Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryo Fukuyama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Keith Senior! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Senior tries a head kick but it misses.
Senior shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fukuyama but Fukuyama pushes him off and we're back to square one. Fukuyama lands a jab-cross combination. Fukuyama throws a hook to the side of Senior's head but Senior sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Fukuyama lands with a straight right. Senior didn't see that one coming. Fukuyama rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Senior moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Senior gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Fukuyama. Fukuyama misses with a looping left. A jab from Fukuyama finds it's way through Senior's defenses. Senior takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Fukuyama lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Senior shoots in and drives through. Fukuyama sprawls well. Senior is looking to clinch but Fukuyama is avoiding it.
Fukuyama misses with a two punch combination.
Fukuyama scores with a spinning back kick! Senior fails with a takedown attempt. Ryo Fukuyama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Keith Senior. Fukuyama has managed to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Senior misses with a hook from the clinch. Fukuyama is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Senior is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Fukuyama pulls him back up using the underhooks. Fukuyama pressing his opponent against the cage. Fukuyama wants to break free but Senior has control.
Senior takes a shot to the head. Fukuyama lands with a right to the head. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Fukuyama.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ryo Fukuyama. Fukuyama throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Fukuyama looks to land a combination but Senior avoids it well. Senior looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fukuyama is fending him off so far but Senior persists. Nope, Fukuyama circles away and we're back to standing. Fukuyama stuffs the takedown. Fukuyama throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Senior gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Senior shoots in but Fukuyama avoids the takedown attempt easily. Senior uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fukuyama. Fukuyama misses with a double jab.
Fukuyama lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Senior throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fukuyama's waist but Fukuyama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Senior off to one side. Fukuyama is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Senior looks gassed! Fukuyama lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Senior moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Fukuyama scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fukuyama fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Senior, pushing him back against the cage. Fukuyama lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Senior tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Fukuyama smiles and moves away.
Senior bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Senior works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Fukuyama tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Senior presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Senior sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Senior lands with some strikes. Fukuyama tries to hold on but Senior postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fukuyama is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Senior is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Senior has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Senior can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fukuyama is looking to escape. Fukuyama is looking to get to half guard. Fukuyama tries to lock up and control but Senior gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Senior has hold of Fukuyama's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Fukuyama manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fukuyama is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryo Fukuyama dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fukuyama is pushing Senior up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Fukuyama makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. A nice right hand lands inside from Fukuyama. Fukuyama manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Fukuyama tries to break the clinch but Senior is controlling the position. Fukuyama lands with a light punch inside. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Senior is trying to break the clinch but Fukuyama has him pressed against the cage. Nice body punch from Fukuyama - that landed with a thud.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Senior prevents Fukuyama from breaking the clinch. Stalling in the clinch from Fukuyama.
Fukuyama lands a hook that snaps the head of Senior backwards. Fukuyama leaning his opponent against the cage. Senior goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
That's one minute gone in the round. Senior fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Senior wants to break free but Fukuyama has control.
Fukuyama scores with a shoulder strike. A short right hand to the side of the head by Fukuyama. Senior looking to stall.
Fukuyama wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Fukuyama can't break the clinch.
Senior jumps guard but Fukuyama stands there with Senior around his waist. Senior gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Fukuyama crunches a lovely knee into Senior's ribcage. Senior letting Fukuyama take a breather here. Senior misses with a shot to the kidneys.
The is referee keeping an eye on Fukuyama - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ryo Fukuyama. Senior moves forwards but Fukuyama connects with a nice, crisp jab. Fukuyama throws a shot from downtown. Senior moves away and avoids it. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Fukuyama, as that shot connected.
Fukuyama throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Senior sees it coming and avoids it easily. Fukuyama lands a two punch combo.

Senior wants to clinch but Fukuyama slips to the side and Fukuyama counters with a nice low kick that buckles Senior's knee momentarily. Fukuyama connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Senior closes the distance looking to clinch and Fukuyama counters with a slapping leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fukuyama lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Fukuyama clinches with his opponent.

Senior tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fukuyama just stands there and leans against the cage. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ryo Fukuyama. Fukuyama jabs Senior right on the nose. Senior blinks but takes it well. Fukuyama misses with a two punch combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Senior fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Senior walks into a stiff left hand from Fukuyama. Fukuyama misses with an uppercut. Fukuyama scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Fukuyama thumps Senior with a low kick. Fukuyama scores with a punch to the head. Ryo Fukuyama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fukuyama scores with a sloppy right hand. Senior should have avoided that one. A slow jab from Fukuyama misses its intended target. Senior takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. No joy there for Fukuyama, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Ryo Fukuyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A punch combination from Fukuyama misses. Fukuyama gets in close and instigates a clinch. Senior jumps guard but Fukuyama stands there with Senior around his waist. Senior gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Senior takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Fukuyama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Fukuyama uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Senior has time to react. Fukuyama cracks Senior with a good jab. Fukuyama darts in and clinches Senior up against the cage. Fukuyama effectively controlling the action here. Keith Senior has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Fukuyama lands a left hand that snaps the head of Senior backwards. Senior tries for a takedown but Fukuyama manages to get underhooks.

Senior drops down looking for an ankle pick but Fukuyama pulls his leg out and moves away.
Fukuyama checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Ryo Fukuyama is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Senior is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
And that's the end of the fight! Ryo Fukuyama showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fukuyama, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
