Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tristan Moxley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Baby Punch! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Moxley shoots in for a double leg but Punch sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Punch swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. A swing and a miss from Moxley. As Moxley backs off Punch throws a huge counter combo but Moxley manages to avoid it all. Moxley has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Tristan Moxley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A momentary lapse in concentration from Punch enables Moxley to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Punch manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Punch wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Punch looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Punch is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Moxley drops back looking for a leg! Punch is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Punch manages to kick Moxley off! Moxley jumps back into Punch's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Moxley pushes down on Punch's leg and manages to get into half guard. Punch tries to roll over but Moxley keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Punch is looking to control Moxley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Punch avoid being mounted? Moxley controlling the pace. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Punch has eaten all the pies! Punch has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Moxley is working away from the top position though. Punch is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Moxley has latched onto it... Big trouble! Moxley pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Punch is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Moxley!
