PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hotaru Doji (ranked 2081 p4p, 276 weight class) and DeMar DeRozan (ranked 3421 p4p, 414 weight class). Doji comes to the cage accompanied by Crane ft. Beauregard & The Down Right - Meet Me In The Garden. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Hotaru Doji!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, DeMar DeRozan!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from DeRozan. Doji does a little dance to reset his feet.
Doji looks to land a right hand but DeRozan moved out of range.
A nice side step and DeRozan releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
DeRozan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Doji finds it's way round the side to connect with DeRozan's head.
DeRozan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
DeRozan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Doji manages to avoid it.
DeRozan throws a good cross that connects.
Doji swings away with a body shot that misses
and DeRozan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A big left from Doji misses.
Doji dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
DeRozan throws a hook to the side of Doji's head but Doji sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and DeRozan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
DeRozan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
It looked like Doji was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from DeRozan.

DeRozan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Doji.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

DeRozan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Doji moves away.

Doji looks to score with a jab to the body but DeRozan is just out of range.

Doji lands a straight punch to the body, keeping DeRozan at a distance.

and Doji takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Doji lunges at DeRozan with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by DeRozan's hand.

DeRozan appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

enabling DeRozan to counter with a crisp jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

DeRozan looks to throw the jab but Doji is out of range.
Hotaru Doji seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

DeRozan is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Doji swings for the body but DeRozan moves out of range.
DeRozan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Doji throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
DeRozan doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Doji throws a lazy right hand but DeRozan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

It looked like Doji wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Doji chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before DeRozan can pounce on him.
DeRozan has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from DeRozan there as he acknowledges the shot.

Doji looks to land a right hand but DeRozan moved out of range.
Doji uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by DeRozan.
Doji ducks down and throws a hook to the body but DeRozan moves away.

and DeRozan counters with a stiff right hand.
DeRozan moves out of range as Doji strikes.
DeRozan defending well as Doji loads up on a big left hand.
DeRozan is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

and DeRozan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
DeRozan digs a good body shot into Doji's ribs.

and DeRozan counters with a nice right hand that sends Doji toppling to the canvas! Doji scrambles and gets back to his feet - can DeRozan finish him?!

DeRozan throws a big shot that misses.
Oh Doji is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
DeRozan moves out of range of the strikes.
DeRozan is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Doji had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Doji seems to have got his legs back now.

Doji throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Doji misses with an uppercut. DeRozan saw that one coming.
Doji uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by DeRozan.
Doji scores with a shot to the body.
A chopping leg kick lands by DeRozan.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Doji.
DeRozan appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DeMar DeRozan decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
In defeat, Hotaru Doji stepped up to the mic, saying 'We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.'.
