Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 22 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kwon Woo Lee! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Motu Te Tai! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lee drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Lee won't allow Te Tai to get back to his feet. Te Tai has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Lee is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Lee is trying to pull guard but Te Tai turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Te Tai breaks from the clinch.
Te Tai is looking to clinch. Te Tai keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Te Tai wants to clinch. Te Tai clinches. Te Tai has had enough of the clinch but Lee keeps him there for the moment. Lee prevents Te Tai from breaking the clinch. Te Tai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Te Tai rushes Lee and presses him up against the cage. Lee is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Te Tai pulls him back up using the underhooks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kwon Woo Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him. This has been an exciting period of action! Lee pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters circling - Te Tai throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Te Tai tries to clinch but fails miserably and Lee counters with a left and a right that stings Te Tai. Lee throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Te Tai's waist but Te Tai gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lee off to one side. Lee blocks a head kick by Te Tai.
Te Tai tries to clinch up. Lee half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Te Tai tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Te Tai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
No luck for Lee with that takedown attempt. The fight moves into the clinch position. Te Tai is trying to push Lee away but Lee has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Te Tai breaks the clinch.
Te Tai tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Motu Te Tai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Te Tai misses with a head kick.
Te Tai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Te Tai throws a lazy head kick and Lee makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Te Tai really felt that one!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lee throws a head kick that half lands.
It looks like Motu Te Tai has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Te Tai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Lee lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Lee closes the distance and clinches. Te Tai wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Te Tai tries to break the clinch but Lee is controlling the position. The referee calls for Lee to work.
Te Tai looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Te Tai manages to break the clinch.
A big head kick from Te Tai and Lee is sent sprawling to the canvas!
Lee is rocked! Te Tai gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Oh Lee is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Lee gets tackled into the cage by Te Tai. Te Tai maintains the clinch. Te Tai breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Te Tai closes the distance and clinches. Te Tai manages to break the clinch.
Lee avoids the head kick by Te Tai.
Te Tai looks winded! Te Tai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Lee is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Te Tai. Te Tai fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lee, pushing him back against the cage. Te Tai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Te Tai clinches up with Lee and pushes him back against the cage. Te Tai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lee walks straight into a right hand from Te Tai - that's dropped him! Te Tai jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Lee from any more punishment! Lee complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Motu Te Tai!
