PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julio Dean (ranked 5652 p4p, 482 weight class) and Badiss Kassib (ranked 7503 p4p, 539 weight class). Dean comes into the arena with Zack Fox- Jesus Is The One (I Got Depression) blaring out of the sound system. Julio Dean had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Julio Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Badiss Kassib!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Dirk Anderson and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kassib clinches up against the cage.
Dean is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Kassib misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Dean.
Kassib tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Dean is trying to pull guard but Kassib turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Kassib misses with an elbow over the top.
Kassib looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Kassib misses with a shot to the kidneys.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Kassib creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Kassib misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Dean.
Kassib lands with a right to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dean drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julio Dean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kassib misses with a knee strike.
Kassib keeps control of Dean as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Dean blocks the elbow strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dean manages to break the clinch.
Badiss Kassib seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dean or perhaps it was just good defense by Kassib, which made it look bad.
Dean circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kassib tries to clinch but Dean is having none of it.
Kassib closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Kassib closes the distance and pushes Dean back into the cage.

Dean has Kassib pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dean pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kassib tumbling to the mat - Dean dives into Kassib's guard.
Dean pushes down on Kassib's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Dean will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kassib looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dean is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kassib is just riding it out for now. Dean eventually gives up the hold.

Dean is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kassib defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dean is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Dean seems to be working for a kimura but Kassib defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Badiss Kassib dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kassib tries to close the distance and clinch but Dean swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kassib displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dean.
Kassib thinks about the counter body kick.
Dean shoots in for a double leg but Kassib sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kassib lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Kassib tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dean paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kassib moves into range and clinches up with Dean.
Come on Dean - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Kassib lands an elbow that stopped Dean in his tracks for a moment.

Kassib is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dean is defending well for now.

Dean takes an elbow to the temple.
Dean tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kassib misses with a knee strike.

A short right from Kassib.
Kassib gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Dean lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Kassib is trying to stand back up but Dean is controlling him

Kassib is defending against the submission attempts here by Dean.
Kassib is looking to escape.
Dean wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kassib keeps working.

Dean is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kassib is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Julio Dean!
A very excited looking Julio Dean made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
