Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Diaz (ranked 3690 p4p, 411 weight class) and Randy Ortiz (ranked 4523 p4p, 478 weight class). George Diaz has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randy Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz clinches up against the cage.
Diaz tries to circle away but Ortiz has him pinned against the cage.
Diaz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ortiz has him pressed against the cage.

Ortiz has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Diaz is trying to keep an underhook but Ortiz manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ortiz in particular looking to stall.

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ortiz pulls his head out easily.
Ortiz is taking a breather. Diaz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Ortiz slips a nice elbow through Diaz's hands, connecting with Diaz's forehead.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ortiz working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ortiz in particular looking to stall.

Diaz has hold of Ortiz's hands but Ortiz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ortiz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ortiz lands a nice short elbow.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ortiz connects with a nice short shot to Diaz's temple.

Diaz has hold of Ortiz's hands but Ortiz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Ortiz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Diaz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ortiz to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ortiz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Diaz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ortiz controls the pace.

Diaz seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Diaz throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ortiz uses it to pass to side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Let's hope that Ortiz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Ortiz has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Diaz's face.

Ortiz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Diaz takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Randy Ortiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
