Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ivan Mrka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marco Polols! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Polols misses with a takedown attempt and Mrka moves into the clinch. Polols missing with knees to the body.
Mrka pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. No luck for Mrka with that takedown attempt. A nice side step and Polols releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Mrka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Polols's waist but Polols gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mrka off to one side. Polols doesn't manage to clinch there - Mrka circles away.
Polols is looking to clinch. Polols closes the distance and clinches up with Mrka, looking for a takedown. Polols pushes Mrka against the cage but Mrka circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mrka. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Mrka. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mrka fails with a takedown attempt. Polols stuffs the takedown attempt from Mrka. Mrka gets slowly back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Polols misses with a takedown attempt - Mrka sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Polols throws a one two combo.
Mrka closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mrka lands in his opponent's guard. Polols can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mrka controls the pace. Mrka postures up and lands a big shot to Polols's brow. Mrka has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mrka is pushing down on Polols's leg trying to pass to half guard. Polols is fighting to maintain full guard but Mrka has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Polols is looking to improve his position.
Mrka uses his free foot to push down on Polols's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Polols. Mrka connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mrka looking to control and managing it successfully. Mrka has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Mrka is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Polols is surviving well by controlling Mrka's body position as best he can. Mrka is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Polols has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mrka lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Polols is looking to get to half guard. Mrka is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Polols is surviving well by controlling Mrka's body position as best he can. Mrka working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Mrka moves to back control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mrka is looking for the choke from the back position but Polols is controlling his hands well. Oooh a big shot gets through from Mrka. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Mrka has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Polols! Can he survive? No! He's out! Mrka gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ivan Mrka!
