Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mel Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luck Chiddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chiddell has chosen Bulls On Parade as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mel Gray! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luck Chiddell! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chiddell ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Chiddell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gray's waist but Gray gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chiddell off to one side. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Some wild striking there from Gray.
Gray shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chiddell as he jumps to the side. Chiddell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Gray takes a shot right to the bread basket. Gray uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Chiddell. Gray fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chiddell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gray. Gray throws a jab when Chiddell was well out of range. Gray throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Chiddell on the side of the head. Chiddell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chiddell looks for a takedown but Gray sprawls well. Gray drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gray misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Gray throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Gray creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gray looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Gray is breathing heavily. Gray tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chiddell can do anything to dispel that myth. Chiddell wants to get back to his feet but Gray is dominant here and he's now got Chiddell's back! Chiddell trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Even with his hooks in, Gray manages to miss with strikes from the back. Oooh a big shot gets through from Gray. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Gray working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Gray is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Chiddell is defending well though. Gray let's go of the attempt for now. Gray has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Chiddell has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chiddell defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Gray's arms. Chiddell trying to control the hands but Gray breaks the grip. Chiddell has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Gray is looking for the choke from the back position but Chiddell is controlling his hands well. Chiddell is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Chiddell is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Gray throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Gray tightening his grip on Chiddell, looking for the choke. Gray seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Chiddell's chin but Chiddell turns very nicely into Gray's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Chiddell.

Chiddell scores with a decent looking hook. Chiddell shoots in for a double leg but Gray sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Gray thows a body shot but no joy. Chiddell thows a body shot but no joy. Chiddell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gray throws a nice looking combination but Chiddell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Chiddell lands the left hand. Gray throws a right and a left that both miss. Chiddell throws a hook to the side of Gray's head but Gray sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Chiddell throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gray on the side of the head. Chiddell walks into a straight right hand from Gray. Gray comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Chiddell throws a series of strikes that have Gray backpedaling.
Chiddell takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Gray throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Chiddell scores with a jab. Chiddell stuffs the takedown. Gray takes one on the button. Gray scores with a body shot.
Gray is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chiddell. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Chiddell counters with a left and a right that stings Gray. Chiddell connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gray. Gray circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Some wild striking there from Gray.
Gray takes one to the side of the head.
Chiddell thows a left - swing and a miss! Gray lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Gray keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chiddell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gray but Gray pushes him off and we're back to square one. Gray connects with a crisp jab. Gray misses with a wild body shot. Chiddell misses the jab. Chiddell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gray swivels and escapes. Mel Gray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luck Chiddell. Chiddell takes a shot right to the bread basket. Luck Chiddell seems to be getting the better of the standup. Gray misses with a hook. Chiddell ducked under it nicely. Gray keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Chiddell. Gray slips under a jab from Chiddell. Chiddell moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chiddell tries a head kick but it misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chiddell. Nice takedown defense from Gray. No joy for Chiddell on that attempt. Chiddell misses with a series of wild punches.
Gray lands a jab-cross combination. Chiddell slips a jab and a cross from Gray.
Mel Gray is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Chiddell scores with a hook. Gray throws a shot to the body.
Gray throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Chiddell stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Gray closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. A slow jab from Gray misses its intended target. Chiddell gets the takedown into side control. Gray has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gray manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Chiddell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gray. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Chiddell tries to roll over but Gray keeps him under control. Gray throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gray drops an elbow to the side of Chiddell's head. Gray throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gray in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Chiddell tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gray!
