Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Li Qiang (ranked 1225 p4p, 148 weight class) and Thomas Baba (ranked 1814 p4p, 198 weight class). Thomas Baba is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Li Qiang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Thomas Baba! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Qiang throws a series of punches but Baba moves out of range. A punch combination from Qiang misses. Baba staying out of range there. Baba punishes Qiang's body with a nice straight punch. Qiang definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Qiang scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Baba is looking to reverse the position. Baba is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Qiang in side control lands a decent elbow. Qiang controls the position. Qiang postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Qiang scores with punches from side control. Qiang scores with a couple of short elbows. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Qiang looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Baba is avoiding damage well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baba is not content to let Qiang control the position. Qiang takes a little break here. Baba wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Baba prevents Qiang from moving into mount. Baba being controlled for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Baba managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Qiang.
Qiang is looking to take a break and control but Baba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Qiang controls the position from side control. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Li Qiang dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Qiang misses with a hook. Qiang moves away from the strike by Baba. A jab from Baba misses. A big left from Qiang misses. A jab lands there for Qiang. Qiang misses with a lunging right hand
and Baba counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Qiang thinking. Qiang looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Qiang looking to pass the guard. Qiang with a flurry of punches that miss. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Qiang throws a big elbow that misses. Baba is looking to sweep but instead, Qiang has passed into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Qiang lands a nice short elbow. Qiang wants to pass to mount but Baba is defending the position. Qiang is working hard here to advance position. Baba wants to get back to full guard but Qiang has passed into side control. Qiang controls the position from side control. Baba is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Qiang sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Baba is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Qiang is chipping away with strikes.
Baba takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Qiang working away. Qiang lands some shots froms side control. Qiang throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Qiang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Qiang advances to full mount. Qiang scores with a couple of good head shots there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baba can do anything to dispel that myth. Qiang putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Qiang controlling from mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Li Qiang dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Baba steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Qiang. Thomas Baba has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Li Qiang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Baba stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Baba wants it to stay on the feet. Baba slips under a jab. Qiang fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Baba! But no joy. Baba lands a really nice looking cross but Qiang seems unphased.
Qiang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Baba can do to turn this around? Qiang connects with a right hand. Baba shakes it off. Qiang avoids the body shot from Baba.
Baba connects with a body shot. Baba is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag. Qiang throws a lazy uppercut
and Baba counters with a nice uppercut.
It looks like Li Qiang has been cut. Qiang misses with a hook. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. No luck for Qiang with that takedown attempt. Jab from Qiang.
That's one minute gone in the round. Qiang misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Despite the aggression on Baba's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Li Qiang. That's going to take a lot out of him. Qiang misses with an uppercut. Qiang misses with a few strikes there.
Baba looks to land a right hand but Qiang moved out of range. Qiang cracks Baba with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Baba connects with a body shot that sends Qiang's belly button to the back. Baba cracks Qiang with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Qiang looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Baba finish him?
Baba's coach down at Island Sparring was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Baba's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Qiang misses with a two punch combination.
Qiang is aggressively charging in as Baba backs up avoiding any damage. Baba tosses out a jab and Qiang runs right into it face first! Qiang is out cold! Baba dropped down on all fours and is barking in Qiang's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Thomas Baba!
