Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Musashi (ranked 2154 p4p, 240 weight class) and Jose Carvaleho (ranked 3250 p4p, 352 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joe Musashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Carvaleho!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Carvaleho throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Musashi throws a combination that misses

so Carvaleho counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Carvaleho trying to control the position from guard on top but Musashi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carvaleho pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Musashi is keeping the position for now.
My spies in Poseidon MMA inform me that Carvaleho has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Carvaleho thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Carvaleho is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carvaleho is looking to advance position but Musashi has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Carvaleho tries to lock up and control but Musashi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Carvaleho wants to hold on but Musashi pushes him away.
Carvaleho can't escape the position.
Musashi avoids the attempt from Carvaleho to control.
Musashi lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Carvaleho hang on?
Musashi lands a big shot there that rocks Carvaleho but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Carvaleho is bucking up trying to escape but Musashi cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Musashi working for a submission but Carvaleho is keeping him at bay.

Carvaleho manages to control the position for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carvaleho is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Musashi landing strikes, looking to finish!
Musashi postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Carvaleho looks a forlorn figure.
Musashi lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Carvaleho hang on?
Carvaleho wants to control but Musashi is having none of it.
Musashi lands a couple of good shots and Carvaleho has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carvaleho covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carvaleho is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Carvaleho breaks Musashi's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Carvaleho tries to free his leg and advance position but Musashi is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Musashi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Musashi lands a jab to the nose.
Musashi tries for a takedown but Carvaleho sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Musashi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Musashi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Musashi moves out of range as Carvaleho strikes.
Musashi punishes Carvaleho's body with a nice straight punch.
Carvaleho stuffs the takedown.
Carvaleho tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Musashi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Musashi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carvaleho throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Musashi sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Musashi appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Carvaleho gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Musashi.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carvaleho gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Carvaleho manages to break the clinch.

Carvaleho has managed to clinch.

Carvaleho tightens his grip and picks Musashi up, before dumping him to the ground. Musashi manages to land in guard.

Carvaleho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carvaleho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Musashi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Carvaleho is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Musashi.
Musashi tries to buck Carvaleho off but Carvaleho is having none of it.
Musashi tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Musashi is looking to reverse the position.

Carvaleho controlling from side mount.
Carvaleho's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Musashi is trying to get back to half guard.

Carvaleho is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Musashi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Carvaleho wants to control but Musashi is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Musashi is trying to control Carvaleho's posture but Carvaleho avoids it.
Carvaleho works to advance to full mount. Musashi defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Carvaleho showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Carvaleho counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Musashi!
You can see the frustration on Musashi's face as Carvaleho controls the position.

Carvaleho thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Musashi throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Carvaleho wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Musashi, who protects the arm well.

Musashi manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Musashi moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Joe Musashi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Musashi is trying to keep Carvaleho in close.
Carvaleho wants to control from the top but Musashi keeps moving.
Carvaleho's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Musashi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Carvaleho has gone for a leg lock! Musashi slips out almost immediately though and dives into Carvaleho's guard.

Carvaleho controls Musashi momentarily but Musashi frees himself.

Carvaleho wants to sweep but no luck.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jose Carvaleho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Carvaleho has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
