PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mini Mon (ranked 6146 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 6153 p4p, 0 weight class). Mon is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mini Mon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mon is breathing heavily.
Diaz keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Diaz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Diaz not doing much here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Diaz slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mon knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Diaz works his way into side control.

Mon is trying to escape the position but Diaz is controlling the position.
Mon prevents Diaz from moving into mount.
Diaz content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Diaz's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mon is working to avoid the ground and pound but Diaz connects with a decent elbow.
Mon takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Diaz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Diaz drags the fight down to the ground.
Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mon looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Mon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though.

Diaz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mon wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy.
Mon is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Diaz is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Diaz is looking for a kimura here.

Diaz throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mon.

Diaz has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Mon clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Diaz has good solid back control here.

Diaz is not going to allow Mon to sit and survive in this position.

Mon looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Diaz controlling the positon.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.

Mon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mon throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Diaz counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Diaz shoots in and bounces Mon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Diaz is in close to Mon's body, working some short punches and elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nate Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
