Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Petersson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anthony Rodgers! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodgers uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Petersson has time to react. Rodgers lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Rodgers throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Rodgers tries to bum rush Petersson with a series of wild strikes but Petersson uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Rodgers has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Petersson is landing a low percentage of strikes. Rodgers misses with a few strikes there.
Petersson is looking to counter the offense by Rodgers and move into the clinch. Petersson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rodgers throws out the jab. Rodgers misses with a body kick. As Rodgers tries to get set, Petersson tries to push him back and clinch up but Rodgers manages to avoid the attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodgers throws a hook but Petersson avoids it easily. Petersson lands a head shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodgers misses with a straight left. Petersson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Rodgers swings away with a body shot that misses
and Petersson counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Rodgers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The fighters circle momentarily. Petersson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Petersson swings widly with a right hand
and Rodgers counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Rodgers just misses with a punch to the body.
As Rodgers tries to get set, Petersson tries to push him back and clinch up but Rodgers manages to avoid the attempt. Rodgers lands a big head kick that sends Petersson tumbling to the mat! Rodgers takes a step backwards and waves Petersson back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Peter Petersson has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! A telegraphed right hand from Rodgers misses the target. Rodgers walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Petersson drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Rodgers swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Petersson's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Anthony Rodgers! Anthony Rodgers bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
