Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Muhapuro! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Papa Legba! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Muhapuro scores with a body shot.
Legba tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Muhapuro defends well and Legba ends up having to push Muhapuro into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Legba tries for a takedown but Muhapuro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Legba misses with a takedown and Muhapuro counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Paul Muhapuro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Papa Legba. Legba shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Muhapuro defends it nicely. Muhapuro looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Legba shoots in but Muhapuro avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. A jab from Muhapuro finds it's way through Legba's defenses. A lazy left from Muhapuro finds it's target. Legba shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Legba showed some decent athleticism there. Muhapuro's coaches at Gymi have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. Muhapuro is trying is best to control the position here. Legba is thwarting Muhapuro's attempts to control the position. Muhapuro works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Muhapuro keeping moving, preventing Legba from controlling successfully. Legba is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Legba is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Muhapuro wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Muhapuro throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Legba tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Legba drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Muhapuro keeping moving, preventing Legba from controlling successfully. Muhapuro pulls Legba in close to prevent any damage. Legba not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Legba is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Muhapuro is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Muhapuro has escaped and now he's on top!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Muhapuro's corner is telling him to maintain position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Legba had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Muhapuro defends it easily. Legba has his feet on Muhapuro's thighs here. He's pushed Muhapuro off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Muhapuro screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
