PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mahmoud Modaro (ranked 4029 p4p, 441 weight class) and Nathan Dylan (ranked 4120 p4p, 452 weight class). Nathan Dylan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nathan Dylan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Modaro is defended easily by Dylan.
Dylan appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Modaro throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Dylan to counter with a crisp jab.
Modaro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dylan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A swing and a miss from Dylan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Modaro with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Dylan to score with a decent uppercut.
Modaro misses with a straight left.

Modaro closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Modaro lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Dylan wants to stand but Modaro is controlling the position.
Modaro sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dylan's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dylan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dylan really wants to buck Modaro off and get back to his feet.

You get the feeling that Dylan really doesn't like being in this position too much.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Dylan throws a lazy right hand but Modaro sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Modaro counters with a single leg into guard. Dylan didn't expect that.
Mahmoud Modaro overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dylan wants to get back to his feet but Modaro is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Modaro seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dylan for as long as he can get away with.

Modaro seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Dylan's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Nathan Dylan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mahmoud Modaro is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Modaro, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
