Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Dock (ranked 3642 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Smo (ranked 2056 p4p, 0 weight class). Dock's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Hangover Soundtrack- Iko Iko. Bob Dock has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 33 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Dock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Smo!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smo darts in and clinches Dock up against the cage.
Smo is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Smo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smo shoots in but no luck this time.
Dock seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Smo falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dock counters with a head kick.
Smo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dock paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Smo looks to land a body kick but Dock moved away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dock misses with a knee to the head.
Dock tries a knee to the head but Smo blocks it.
Smo managing to block the knees to the body from Dock.

Smo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Dock gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dock tries to land knees in the clinch but Smo avoids the damage to the body.

Smo pulls Dock into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dock passes Smo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Smo regains full guard. Nicely done.

Dock has gone for a leg lock! Smo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dock's guard.

Dock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smo defends it easily.

Dock has his foot on Smo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smo works his way back into a safe position though.

Dock can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smo controls the pace.

Smo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Dock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smo pushes down on Dock's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Smo is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Dock off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Smo is having to fend off submission attempts from Dock, who is looking to sink in the choke. Dock doesn't have the hooks in though and Smo manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Dock throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Smo escapes and throws Dock's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Dock parries the strikes from Smo easily there. Smo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Dock to escape.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dock really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Smo dives in and grabs Dock's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dock pushes down on Smo's head and hops out.
Smo wants to clinch.
Dock half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Smo throws a series of punches but Dock avoids them all with ease.

Smo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Smo remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Dock drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smo!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Joe Smo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
