PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rio Silva (ranked 1962 p4p, 33 weight class) and Jett Denovan (ranked 5092 p4p, 178 weight class). Silva's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Eye of the Tiger. Jett Denovan has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Rio Silva's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rio Silva!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jett Denovan!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva works over Denovan's head and body with a nice combination.
Denovan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Silva throws a series of punches but Denovan moves out of range.

Denovan tries to keep at a distance but Silva has taken the fight into the clinch.

Silva escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Denovan closes the distance and clinches.
Silva tries to circle away but Denovan has him pinned against the ropes.
Silva is trying to break the clinch but Denovan has him pressed against the ropes.
Silva tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva breaks the clinch.

Silva has managed to clinch.
Denovan looking for a takedown.
Denovan misses with a hook from the clinch.

Silva tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Denovan just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Silva tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Denovan smiles and moves away.

Silva swats away the attempt to clinch by Denovan.
Denovan dodges the punch combination from Silva.
Denovan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but Denovan shows good takedown defense.
No luck for Silva with that takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Denovan's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
The fight stays on the outside here - Denovan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Silva throws a big counter combination but Denovan scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Silva fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Denovan to the ground. Silva is now in Denovan's guard.

Denovan has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Silva is pushing him up against the ropes, looking to control the position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Denovan misses with a hook to the ribs.

Silva manages to break the clinch.

Silva gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Silva has had enough of the clinch but Denovan keeps him there for the moment.

Silva has clasped his hands together around Denovan's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Silva stands up and beckons Denovan to his feet.
Jett Denovan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva fails to land the takedown.
Denovan unleashes a big counter combination but Silva bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Silva swats away the attempt to clinch by Denovan.

Denovan gets a clinch.

Silva is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Denovan is defending well.
Denovan stalling in the clinch but Silva improves position.

Silva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Denovan has closed the distance and engaged Silva in a clinch.
Denovan is struggling to control the position.
A battle for position here, against the ropes.
Silva blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Denovan tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Silva tries to break free but Denovan pushes him back against the ropes.
Denovan misses with the head strike.
Denovan throws a punch but it's blocked by Silva.

Silva gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Denovan regains guard.

Denovan has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the ropes to get back to his feet. Silva has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the ropes.

Silva has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Denovan clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Silva seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Denovan trying to get back to his feet but Silva is in full control for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rio Silva will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Silva lands a left and a right that send Denovan crashing to the mat, dazed. Silva thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Jett Denovan has been cut.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Denovan's waist but Denovan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Silva.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Silva cracks Denovan with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Silva is chipping away with strikes.

Silva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Silva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Denovan, who protects the arm well.
Silva prevents Denovan from escaping the position.

Silva is working Denovan over with some ground and pound from side control.

Denovan explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Denovan closes the distance and clinches.
Silva is trying to pull guard but Denovan has him pressed against the ropes.
Denovan misses with a knee strike.
Silva is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Denovan to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rio Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva lands a right hand.
Silva fails to pull guard.

Denovan throws a head punch that misses.
Silva has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Denovan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Silva tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Denovan just stands there and leans against the ropes.
Silva misses with a hook to the ribs.
Denovan misses with a punch to the body.

Silva ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Silva no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Denovan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Silva looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Denovan wants to stand and escape but instead Silva has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Silva is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Denovan can do to turn this around?
Silva postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Denovan is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea.

Silva stands and steps away. Denovan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Rio Silva is winning the standup battle so far.

Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Denovan is trying to stand back up but Silva is controlling him

Denovan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Silva.

Silva decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Denovan tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Silva manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Denovan sprawls well. Denovan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Silva has hold of Denovan's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Denovan tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Silva cranks the arm and Denovan screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Denovan, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Rio Silva!
