PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Lock (ranked 4477 p4p, 491 weight class) and Jim Ferguson (ranked 6315 p4p, 555 weight class). Ferguson has chosen The Crusher as his entrance music. On his way into the ring it seems that Ian Lock has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ian Lock seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ian Lock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jim Ferguson!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lock feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Lock trying to control but Ferguson is working from the bottom.
Ferguson looking for a sweep. Not yet Ferguson, not yet.

Lock postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ferguson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lock, into his guard.


Lock looking for a guillotine here but Ferguson defends easily.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ferguson won't allow Lock to sweep him here.

Ferguson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lock has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ferguson has managed to get both his arms back between Lock's legs - danger averted.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ferguson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Lock is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Lock tries to bench press Ferguson off him but Ferguson keeps the position.
Ferguson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

We've been informed that Ferguson has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Lock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ferguson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close round but I would say that Ian Lock will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ferguson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lock manages to avoid it.

Lock scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Ferguson is refusing to be controlled, as Lock sits in half guard.

Lock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ferguson throws out a counter right but Lock avoids it with no problem.

Lock is looking to work some ground and pound but Ferguson has wrist control.

Lock drops back looking for a leg! Ferguson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferguson manages to kick Lock off! Lock jumps back into Ferguson's guard.

Ferguson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Lock is looking to pass into half guard but Ferguson pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ferguson is in guard.


Lock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ferguson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ferguson defends it easily.

I would just about give that final round to Jim Ferguson.
I think Lock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ian Lock really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Ma Balls Is Hot Clothing logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
The defeated Jim Ferguson had this to say: 'The phoenix has risen ... and beaten the hell out of me. '.
