PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kubrat Pulev (ranked 4570 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Prado (ranked 6243 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kubrat Pulev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fernando Prado!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pulev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pulev lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pulev is fighting to break Prado's control of his arms but Prado is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Pulev is working Prado over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Prado wants to sweep here but Pulev controlling him for the moment.
Prado wants to get back to his feet but Pulev is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prado bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pulev's guard.

Prado postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pulev is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Prado, into his guard.

Prado trying to keep a closed guard but Pulev is proving a slippery customer.
Pulev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Pulev won't allow Prado to sweep him here.
Pulev wants to get up but he can't break Prado's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Prado is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Prado keeping full guard, as Pulev tries to pass.
Prado is trying to keep Pulev in close.
Pulev passes Prado's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Prado wants to control but Pulev is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Pulev shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Pulev tries to pass to full mount but Prado defends it.
Prado trying to hold on to Pulev's head to control him but Pulev postures up.
Prado is looking to escape.
Pulev is looking to stall here but Prado recovers full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Prado manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pulev manages to get himself to full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Prado passes into half guard.
Prado lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kubrat Pulev will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Pulev gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Prado to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Prado wants to control from the top but Pulev keeps moving.
Pulev wants to stand up but Prado is controlling him.

Prado stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pulev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Prado wants to control from the top but Pulev keeps moving.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Prado pushing down on Pulev's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Pulev is trying to maintain the position but Prado is very close to passing his half guard.
Prado thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pulev's head.
Prado wants to control but Pulev is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Pulev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Prado to the mat! Prado manages to get full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pulev trying to control but Prado is working from the bottom.

Prado has his foot on Pulev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pulev works his way back into a safe position though.
Prado is trying to keep Pulev in close.

Prado has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pulev has passed into side control.
Prado is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pulev's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Prado makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Prado.
Prado is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fernando Prado has got the better of the ground game so far.

Prado is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Fernando Prado showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Prado is working to tighten his grip on Pulev's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Pulev has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Prado is really squeezing tight and eventually Pulev passes out! Prado breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
