PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Roger Sander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Howard Beale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beale has chosen Mad As Hell as his entrance music. Howard Beale is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roger Sander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Howard Beale!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beale tries to bum rush Sander with a series of wild strikes but Sander uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sander changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Beale tries to avoid it but Sander manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Beale to the ground. Beale escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sander has a takedown stuffed.
Beale keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Sander. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Beale shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Beale showed some decent athleticism there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Beale in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Beale lands a nice short elbow.

Sander is defending against the submission attempts here by Beale.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sander is looking to control Beale's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sander avoid being mounted?

Beale wants to work for an arm triangle but Sander is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Beale seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Sander is refusing to be controlled, as Beale sits in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Beale fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sander sprawls well initially but Beale persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Beale looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Sander has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Beale is working away from the top position though.

Beale is trying to control the action in half guard but Sander is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sander tries to get to full guard but Beale has control of the leg.

Beale decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Beale throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sander.

Beale changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sander looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sander on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Beale creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Beale stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Beale shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Beale was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Howard Beale seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beale swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Beale throws a sloppy head kick and Sander moves out of range easily.
Beale throws a wild body kick that Sander sees coming a mile off.
Beale tries a head kick but it misses.

and Beale moves into the clinch.

Beale has picked Sander up - he's going for a ride! Beale dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Howard Beale has got the better of the ground game so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Beale scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Beale connects with a nice short shot to Sander's temple.
Sander is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Beale lands with a punch from half guard.
Sander wants to control but Beale is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Beale prevents Sander from improving his position.
Beale is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Beale is taking a breather. Sander says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Beale connects with a nice short shot to Sander's temple.

Beale is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Beale is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Despite being in the dominant position, Howard Beale just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Beale moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Beale scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Howard Beale showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Sander is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Beale has hold of Sander's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Sander tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Beale cranks the arm and Sander screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Sander, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Howard Beale!
