PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Slaughter (ranked 3378 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamiah Monlova (ranked 22560 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Slaughter might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter - Iron Maiden. Monlova comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Erica Kane - Speaker Knockerz kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Slaughter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jamiah Monlova!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slaughter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Slaughter in particular looking to stall.
Slaughter moves nicely into side control.
Monlova seems a little lost for a moment, as Slaughter dominates the positioning.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slaughter seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Monlova for as long as he can get away with.

Slaughter decides to stand back up. Slaughter steps back and let's Monlova get back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Monlova enables Slaughter to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Monlova manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Slaughter works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Slaughter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Slaughter.

Slaughter continues to hold on tight.
Slaughter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Monlova moves into the clinch.

Monlova is fighting off a takedown attempt but Slaughter is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Monlova to the mat. Monlova regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Slaughter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Our spies down at at Cozad Amsterdam inform us that Monlova has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Monlova escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Slaughter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monlova shoots in looking for a takedown but Slaughter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Monlova's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Slaughter closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Monlova quickly recovers to half guard.
Monlova is looking to get back to is feet but Slaughter passes into side control.
You can see the frustration on Monlova's face as Slaughter controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Slaughter is stinking the place up with his stalling.

Monlova gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Slaughter continues to stall.
Monlova is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Slaughter controlling the position easily from mount.
Monlova tries to hold on but Slaughter pushes him away.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Slaughter drives through with a takedown into Monlova's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Slaughter sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Monlova manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Slaughter manages to get himself to full guard.

Slaughter has control of Monlova's left arm, preventing Monlova from doing any damage.

Monlova throws a big right hand that misses.
Slaughter has his hands on Monlova's head, controlling the position.

Slaughter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Slaughter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Slaughter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Slaughter passes into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Slaughter in particular looking to stall.

Monlova tries to roll over but Slaughter keeps him under control.
Slaughter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Monlova looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Max Slaughter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Slaughter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Slaughter showed some decent athleticism there.
Slaughter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jamiah Monlova has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Monlova regains full guard. Nicely done.
Slaughter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Slaughter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
