The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koniu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Lemieux looks to land a left hand but Koniu moved out of range nicely.
Lemieux moves out of range of the body kick from Koniu.
Lemieux cracks Koniu with a good jab.
It looks like Japa Koniu has been cut.
Lemieux doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Lemieux has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

and Lemieux counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Lemieux misses with a hook. Koniu ducked under it nicely.
Japa Koniu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Koniu has Lemieux pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Lemieux is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Koniu - that's hurt Lemieux badly! Oh, another knee lands and Lemieux is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Lemieux doesn't seem to be complaining.
