Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shane MacGowan (ranked 1013 p4p, 140 weight class) and Willie Wood (ranked 901 p4p, 127 weight class). MacGowan comes to the cage accompanied by The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey. Willie Wood will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shane MacGowan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Willie Wood!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood on the wrong end of a nice jab.
MacGowan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wood moves away.
Wood connects with a crisp jab.
MacGowan throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
MacGowan bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Wood's head backwards.
Wood connects with a jab.
MacGowan shoots in looking for a takedown but Wood manages to keep the fight standing, pushing MacGowan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wood lands with a shot to the body.
Wood changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wood lands a nice hook to MacGowan's body. MacGowan takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A nice leg kick lands there from Wood.
MacGowan moves out of range as Wood throws a body kick.
MacGowan on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
MacGowan misses with a wild body shot.
Wood let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Wood throws a body shot but no joy.
Nice takedown defense from Wood. No joy for MacGowan on that attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from MacGowan. Wood does a little dance to reset his feet.
Wood connects with a crisp jab.
Nice defenses there by Wood.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wood displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as MacGowan throws out the jab.
MacGowan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wood tries to avoid it but MacGowan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wood to the ground. Wood escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wood has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane MacGowan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
MacGowan moves out of range of the strikes.
Wood chopping away at his opponent's legs.
MacGowan throws a right hand that misses
enabling Wood to counter with a crisp jab.
MacGowan blocks a low kick nicely.
MacGowan swings widly with a right hand
and Wood counters with a left to the body.
MacGowan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wood wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
MacGowan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wood was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Wood leaves MacGowan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wood swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Wood thumps MacGowan with a low kick.
MacGowan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
MacGowan swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Wood is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
MacGowan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wood.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wood ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
MacGowan throws a head kick but Wood moves out of range.
Good exchange - Wood coming out on top.
Wood lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Nice cross by Wood.
MacGowan swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Wood counters with a left to the body.
MacGowan misses the shot to the body.
MacGowan misses with a hook. Wood ducked under it nicely.
Wood is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down MacGowan rather than just go for the knockout.
Wood dips to his left and cracks MacGowan with an uppercut!
MacGowan avoids the body shot from Wood.
MacGowan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wood was well out of range. Poor timing from MacGowan.
Wood stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
MacGowan moves forwards but Wood connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Wood slips a jab from MacGowan.
MacGowan takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Wood throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck MacGowan on the side of the head.
Willie Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
MacGowan has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from MacGowan there as he acknowledges the shot.


MacGowan is rocked!
Wood walks forward and throws a big overhand right! MacGowan drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Wood swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from MacGowan's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Willie Wood!
An out of breath Willie Wood thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
