Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phill Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Red!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, David Schapiro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Red closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brooks to the mat! Brooks manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Red controlling from the top position.
Brooks is trying to keep Red in close.
Brooks looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Brooks wants to sweep but no luck.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Red accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Red postures up in Brooks's guard and throws a big left but Brooks blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Red wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brooks keeps working.
Brooks is in trouble now - Red has advanced to mount!

Red prevents Brooks from getting the reversal.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Red lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Red avoids the attempt from Brooks to control.

Brooks tries to hold on but Red postures up.

Red trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Brooks is looking to improve his position but Red isn't that keen on the idea.
Brooks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Red controlling the pace for now.

Red is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Brooks is surviving well by controlling Red's body position as best he can.

Red pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Red stands up from mount. Strange move.
Brooks slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Red looks to land a combination but Brooks avoids it well.
Brooks fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Red.
Brooks throws a right and a left that both miss.
No joy there for Brooks, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Red changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Brooks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brooks takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Red in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Brooks manages to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Red dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Red takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Brooks ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Red looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Red slows the pace down in half guard.
Red prevents Brooks from improving his position.
Brooks is looking to control Red's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Brooks avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Red is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Brooks wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Red is now in half guard.
Brooks is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Red's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Red's back!
Brooks is not going to allow Red to sit and survive in this position.

Brooks is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Red defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Brooks is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Red knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Red for a finish.

You can see the frustration on Red's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Brooks gets his hands free as Red looks to control.
Red turns into Brooks and is now in his guard.
Red scoring with some ground and pound.

Brooks wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Brooks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brooks is on top in guard.

Brooks drops back looking for a leg! Red is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Red manages to kick Brooks off! Brooks jumps back into Red's guard.
Brooks wants to control from the top but Red keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Phill Brooks will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Red tries a low kick but Brooks avoids it.
Red is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Red shoots in looking for a takedown. Brooks tries to sprawl out of it but Red keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Brooks manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As Red looks to move away, Brooks throws a big counter combo but Red just gets out of the way.

Red tries to pull guard but Brooks won't allow it.
Red lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Brooks backwards.
Brooks is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Red pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Red manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Red has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Brooks uses from the top position.
Red can't keep his opponent in guard - Brooks advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Brooks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Red swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brooks is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Red is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Red has escaped and now he's on top!

Brooks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Red manages to get himself to full guard.

Red looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Brooks wants to control from the top but Red keeps moving.

Brooks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brooks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kurt Red has got the better of the ground game so far.

Red manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brooks manages to get himself to full guard.

Red gets to his feet. Brooks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Red throws a low kick, looking for Brooks's leg but Brooks calmly moves out of range.

Brooks changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Red looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kurt Red comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Red has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
