Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Filip Baran (ranked 4638 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikita Smirnov (ranked 3033 p4p, 170 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Filip Baran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nikita Smirnov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baran moves out of range of the body kick from Smirnov.
Baran wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Baran tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Smirnov defends well and Baran ends up having to push Smirnov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Smirnov tries to counter by closing the distance.
Baran stuffs the takedown.
Smirnov is looking to clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Smirnov or perhaps it was just good defense by Baran, which made it look bad.
Smirnov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smirnov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Baran circles away.
Filip Baran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikita Smirnov.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smirnov tries to close the distance and clinch but Baran swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smirnov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Baran jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smirnov walks away with a smile on his face. Baran gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Baran tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smirnov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Baran somewhat.
Baran leaves Smirnov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Baran fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smirnov avoids it really well and circles away.
Smirnov scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smirnov doesn't manage to clinch there - Baran circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Baran.
Horrible takedown attempt by Baran or perhaps it was just good defense by Smirnov, which made it look bad.
Smirnov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Baran as he avoids it easily.
Baran tries to counter with a takedown but Smirnov is quick to defend against it.
Baran swats away the attempt to clinch by Smirnov.
Baran looks for a takedown but Smirnov sprawls well.

Baran is trying hard to land a takedown here. Smirnov sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Smirnov tries to close the distance and clinch but Baran swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Smirnov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Baran.
Baran thinks about countering with a head kick.

and Baran decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smirnov's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Baran pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smirnov is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baran trying to control but Smirnov is working from the bottom.

Baran wants to pass the guard but Smirnov is keeping the position.
Baran advances position into side control!

That was a close round but I would say that Filip Baran will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Baran defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Smirnov.
Smirnov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Baran keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Baran seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Baran keeps the fight on the outside.
Baran feinted with a counter takedown.
Smirnov throws a head kick but Baran moves out of range.
Filip Baran is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smirnov throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Baran counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Baran is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Baran is trying to maintain the position but Smirnov is very close to passing his half guard.
Baran is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smirnov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Baran works his way to full guard. Good work.
Baran is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Baran is trying to control. Smirnov wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Baran is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smirnov can do to turn this around?

Smirnov looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still in half guard, Baran seems content to control.
Smirnov is refusing to be controlled, as Baran sits in half guard.
Baran moves into full mount! Smirnov won't be happy about that!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Baran manages to pull guard.
Smirnov tries to stand but Baran is controlling from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Baran is on top in guard.

Smirnov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Smirnov manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Baran gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Baran is really struggling to control Smirnov but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Nikita Smirnov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Filip Baran is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Baran, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
