PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Mox (ranked 25222 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitch Gagnon (ranked 2431 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitch Gagnon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brandon Mox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mitch Gagnon!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gagnon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mox.
It seemed like Gagnon was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Mox takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Mox gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Gagnon.

Mox closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gagnon quickly recovers to half guard.
Mox working the head and body with strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mox is keen to just control but Gagnon is a slippery customer.
Mox drops an elbow to the side of Gagnon's head.
Gagnon has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Island Sparring. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Mox is looking to take a break and control but Gagnon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gagnon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mox keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Mox wants to control but Gagnon is keeping him busy.

Mox not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mox throwing shots but Gagnon is blocking nicely.
Mox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gagnon keeping control of the position.
Mox wants to control but Gagnon is keeping him busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gagnon tests Mox's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gagnon takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Gagnon misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mox.
Gagnon lands a nice looking body shot.

Gagnon lands with a straight right. Mox didn't see that one coming.
Mox looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Gagnon lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Gagnon looks to land a left hand but Mox moved out of range nicely.
Mox tries to counter with a takedown but Gagnon is quick to defend against it.
Gagnon scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Gagnon scores with a nice right hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mox walks into a left hand.
Mox tries for a takedown but Gagnon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Mox shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Gagnon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mox trying to control the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mox tries to stand and escape but Gagnon is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mox in particular looking to stall.
Mox is trying to control. Gagnon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gagnon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mox trying to pass the guard but Gagnon defending well.
Gagnon is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gagnon lands with a right hand.
Mox has his takedown stuffed
and Mox takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brandon Mox. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice body punch from Gagnon.
Gagnon scores with a jab to the body.
Mox on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Gagnon drops Mox with a beautiful combination! Mox stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Gagnon is looking for the KO!


Mox is rocked!
Gagnon connects with a right hand. Mox shakes it off.
Oh Mox is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gagnon connects with a body shot that sends Mox's belly button to the back.
Gagnon catches Mox with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Mox takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gagnon is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mox had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Gagnon cracks Mox on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Mox falls backwards against the cage. Gagnon follows up with more strikes that drop Mox to his knees. Gagnon keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Mox! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mitch Gagnon!
A relieved looking Mitch Gagnon thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
