The bell rings for round one and we are underway! O'Neil stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and O'Neil wants it to stay on the feet. Showaikh drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Showaikh will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. O'Neil comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. O'Neil lands a body shot.
O'Neil lands a front kick. Hamza Showaikh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Showaikh fails with the takedown and O'Neil counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Mickey O'Neil has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hamza Showaikh. Showaikh has his takedown stuffed and O'Neil counters with a lovely straight right hand! O'Neil bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Showaikh's head backwards. O'Neil connects with a jab. O'Neil scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. O'Neil jabs at Showaikh's body. We've been told by O'Neil's head coaches at The Dojo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Showaikh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says O'Neil as he avoids it easily. Showaikh misses with a takedown attempt and O'Neil counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Showaikh looks winded! O'Neil throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Showaikh. O'Neil lands an overhand right. Showaikh fails with the takedown and O'Neil counters with a lovely shot to the body. Showaikh ducks right into an uppercut from O'Neil.
That's one minute gone in the round. O'Neil scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Showaikh doesn't seem bothered though. O'Neil lands a head kick. Showaikh smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Showaikh moves forwards but O'Neil connects with a nice, crisp jab. Showaikh on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Showaikh fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Mickey O'Neil is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. O'Neil lands with an overhand left. Showaikh takes a body punch but keeps moving. Showaikh tries to move into range but O'Neil moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Showaikh is rocked! Showaikh drops his hands momentarily and O'Neil needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips Showaikh just on the top of the head. Showaikh drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in Showaikh - he's done!
