Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Emanuel Fimonte! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Smith! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fimonte closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Fimonte pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Fimonte tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance. Fimonte changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Fimonte in side control, throwing shots but Smith defends. Fimonte postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Fimonte looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Fimonte tries to advance to mount but can't. Smith explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Fimonte tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fimonte has a takedown stuffed. Fimonte plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Smith throws a one two combo.
Fimonte shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Fimonte showed some decent athleticism there. Fimonte is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fimonte throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely. Fimonte is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer. Fimonte trying to mount his opponent but Smith defends it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth. Smith is staying active underneath Fimonte, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Fimonte shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Emanuel Fimonte. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith scores with a hook to the body. Fimonte takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Fimonte is breathing heavily. Fimonte throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab. Fimonte drops his hands momentarily and Smith takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Fimonte misses with a two punch combination.
Smith connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Fimonte tumbling to the canvas! Smith pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Fimonte was done - good stoppage!
