Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Habib Putins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Adam Cole! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cole instigates a clinch. Putins has clasped his hands together around Cole's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Cole really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Putins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Putins slows the pace down. Cole is pushing Putins's head away, looking to escape. Putins manages to hold on to the position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee asks Putins politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Putins prefers to stall for the moment though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cole prevents Putins from moving into mount. Putins controls the position. Putins thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Putins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cole is trying to control Putins's posture but Putins avoids it. Cole is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Cole is still trying to improve position. Cole is trying to control Putins's posture but Putins avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Cole tries to get back to half guard but can't. Putins looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Putins staying calm. Cole is trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Putins taking a breather here. Putins wants to control but Cole is keeping him busy. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Putins is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Cole is trying to escape and Putins transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Cole is forced to tap! Nice work there by Putins! Very nice indeed!
