Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Woodyard (ranked 4620 p4p, 487 weight class) and Venvislav Dobrev (ranked 6063 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Woodyard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Venvislav Dobrev!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Woodyard gets a takedown into half guard.
Dobrev is holding on to half guard well.
Woodyard slips a nice elbow through Dobrev's hands, connecting with Dobrev's forehead.
Dobrev desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Dobrev is trying to maintain the position but Woodyard is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dobrev gets full guard.
Dobrev pulls Woodyard in to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Woodyard gets to his feet - Dobrev follows without any prompting.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Dobrev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dobrev blocks a head kick by Woodyard.

Dobrev shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Dobrev wants to stand but Woodyard has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dobrev not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woodyard wants to control but Dobrev is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dobrev keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Woodyard wants to get back to full guard.
Woodyard on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Woodyard tries to get out of the position.
Woodyard keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Dobrev tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Woodyard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Woodyard shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Dobrev is trying to keep Woodyard in close.
Woodyard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Woodyard wants to control from the top but Dobrev keeps moving.
Dobrev seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Dobrev trying to keep a closed guard but Woodyard is proving a slippery customer.
Woodyard is stalling in the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dobrev keeping moving, preventing Woodyard from controlling successfully.
Dobrev seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Dobrev gets caught flat footed, as Woodyard shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dobrev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dobrev is pulling down on Woodyard's head. It's preventing any offense from Woodyard, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Woodyard dominated that round.
That's time! Woodyard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Dobrev fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Woodyard, pushing him back against the cage.

Dobrev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dobrev closes this distance looking for a takedown but Woodyard circles away.

Woodyard takes the fight into the clinch.
Dobrev is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dobrev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dobrev jumps guard but Woodyard turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Woodyard has clasped his hands together around Dobrev's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Woodyard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Woodyard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Dobrev is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Woodyard seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dobrev does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Dobrev wants to get back to his feet.
Steve Woodyard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dobrev moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
We've been informed that Dobrev has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Dobrev controls Woodyard momentarily but Woodyard frees himself.

Dobrev is working an open guard so Woodyard takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Woodyard throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dobrev was covering up waiting for the punch and Woodyard finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Woodyard throws an elbow that misses. Dobrev uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Woodyard's guard. Nice move by Dobrev!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dobrev wants to pass the guard but Woodyard is keeping the position.

Dobrev trying to control the position from guard on top but Woodyard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dobrev engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Woodyard has his hands on Dobrev's head, controlling the position.
Woodyard is trying to control the position but Dobrev postures up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dobrev makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Dobrev trying to control the position from guard on top but Woodyard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dobrev forces his way into half guard.
Dobrev prevents Woodyard from improving his position.

Woodyard is trying to maintain the position but Dobrev is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Venvislav Dobrev will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Woodyard gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dobrev to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Dobrev postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Dobrev wants to control from the top but Woodyard keeps moving.
Woodyard is trying to keep Dobrev in close.

Woodyard wants to get back to his feet but Dobrev is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Dobrev controls from within his opponent's guard.

Dobrev trying to control but Woodyard is working from the bottom.
Woodyard wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Dobrev is now in half guard.
Dobrev is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Dobrev looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dobrev prevents Woodyard from improving his position.
Dobrev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Dobrev tries to stand and escape but Woodyard is controlling the position.
Dobrev working over Woodyard with some ground and pound. Woodyard looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Dobrev uses his free foot to push down on Woodyard's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Woodyard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dobrev tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Woodyard wants to control but Dobrev is having none of it.
BOOM! Dobrev connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Dobrev cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Woodyard working to try and regain half guard.
Woodyard tries to hold on but Dobrev pushes him away.
Woodyard is trying desperately to improve position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Woodyard wants to control but Dobrev is having none of it.
Dobrev takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Venvislav Dobrev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dobrev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
