PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Codename Colt (ranked 23868 p4p, 0 weight class) and Datu Bahktayn (ranked 23864 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Codename Colt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Datu Bahktayn!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Bahktayn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A counter left hand to the body from Colt misses its target.

Colt shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bahktayn is trying to defend but Colt finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bahktayn scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Colt manages to mount him!

Bahktayn somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Bahktayn dives in for a single leg takedown but Colt sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Colt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Bahktayn is trying to counter with his kicks.
Bahktayn fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Colt avoids it really well and circles away.
Codename Colt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Datu Bahktayn.

Colt looking to score a takedown here. Bahktayn is defending well but Colt drives through and ends up in Bahktayn's guard.

Bahktayn is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Colt presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Bahktayn blocks a body shot from Colt.
Bahktayn goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Colt tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Bahktayn avoids it.
Bahktayn doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Bahktayn tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Colt's elbow.
Bahktayn is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Colt is defending well for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bahktayn tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Bahktayn misses with a hook to the ribs.

Bahktayn gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Bahktayn stalling away here and it's allowed Colt to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Colt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Datu Bahktayn will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Colt goes for a double leg but Bahktayn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bahktayn continues to drive forward.
A nice side step and Bahktayn releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Colt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bahktayn swivels and escapes.
Bahktayn dives in for a single leg takedown but Colt sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Colt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Colt wants it to stay on the feet.
Colt swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Colt shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Colt showed some decent athleticism there.
It looks like Colt is going to stand back up.

Bahktayn wants to control but Colt is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Colt decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Bahktayn stuffs the takedown attempt from Colt. Colt gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Codename Colt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Colt goes for a double leg but Bahktayn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bahktayn continues to drive forward.
Bahktayn swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Colt shoots and misses
and Bahktayn counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Colt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bahktayn.
A counter left hand to the body from Colt misses its target.
Bahktayn shoots for a takedown but Colt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Colt is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Bahktayn leaves Colt with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bahktayn darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Colt trying to hold on to Bahktayn's head to control him but Bahktayn postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Colt pushes Bahktayn off but Bahktayn dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Datu Bahktayn will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Horrible takedown attempt by Colt or perhaps it was just good defense by Bahktayn, which made it look bad.
Bahktayn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Colt pinned against the cage. Colt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Colt half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Bahktayn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Colt manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Bahktayn stands up and waves to Colt to follow him.

Bahktayn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Colt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Colt is trying to get back to his feet.
Bahktayn working away.
Colt is not content to let Bahktayn control the position.

Bahktayn stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Codename Colt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Datu Bahktayn.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Colt shoots for a takedown but Bahktayn saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Bahktayn manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Codename Colt has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Datu Bahktayn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bahktayn shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Colt napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Datu Bahktayn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bahktayn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
