Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Samsonov (ranked 190 p4p, 27 weight class) and Jesse Karhu (ranked 1048 p4p, 128 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ivan Samsonov!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Karhu!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samsonov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Karhu.
Nice defenses there by Samsonov.
Samsonov swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Samsonov throws a poor cross that misses
and Karhu counters with a stiff right hand.
Karhu throws the left hand but Samsonov avoids the punch easily.
Karhu misses with a hook
letting Samsonov counter with a right hand.


It looks like Jesse Karhu has been cut.
Karhu misses with a body shot
and Samsonov counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Karhu throws a lazy uppercut
and Samsonov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Karhu throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
It looked like Samsonov wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Samsonov swings for the body but Karhu moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Samsonov looks to throw the jab but Karhu is out of range.
Karhu lands a jab to the head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karhu scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A shot to the body from Karhu misses
and Samsonov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Karhu on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.


That has opened up Jesse Karhu's cut even more.
Samsonov drops his hands momentarily and Karhu takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Karhu misses with a jab, cross combination.
Samsonov keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Samsonov swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Samsonov lands with a big right hook that stumbles Karhu - he's out on his feet here! Samsonov follows up with another monster hook that separates Karhu from consciousness! Karhu falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Samsonov stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ivan Samsonov!
Ivan Samsonov retains his heavyweight title!
A relieved looking Ivan Samsonov thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
