PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jonh Paris (ranked 3225 p4p, 0 weight class) and Snorri Sigfusson (ranked 4210 p4p, 217 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonh Paris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Snorri Sigfusson!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sigfusson tries to avoid it but Paris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sigfusson to the ground. Sigfusson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jonh Paris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paris throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sigfusson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Paris dives in and scores a takedown into Sigfusson's guard.
Paris throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sigfusson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Paris lands a couple of elbows.
Sigfusson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Paris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Paris holds on and takes a little breather.

Paris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sigfusson can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Paris fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Sigfusson is looking to control Paris's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sigfusson avoid being mounted?

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Paris closes the distance and clinches up with Sigfusson, looking for a takedown. Paris pushes Sigfusson against the cage but Sigfusson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sigfusson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The fighters circling - Paris throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Paris takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Paris is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Sigfusson throws a head kick but Paris moves out of range.

Paris fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Paris feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Sigfussons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And Sigfusson tries to counter it with a takedown but Paris pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Good leg kick by Sigfusson there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

The fight stays on the outside here - Sigfusson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Paris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sigfusson is fending him off so far but Paris persists. Nope, Sigfusson circles away and we're back to standing.
Sigfusson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Paris lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Paris is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sigfusson can do to turn this around?

Sigfusson tries a head kick but it misses.
Paris throws a shot from downtown. Sigfusson moves away and avoids it.

Sigfusson throws a sloppy head kick and Paris moves out of range easily.

Sigfusson takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Paris loads up on a big right hand but Sigfusson slips the punch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Paris throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sigfusson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Paris is in Sigfusson's guard.
Sigfusson wants to get back to his feet but Paris is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Paris works over Sigfusson with some ground and pound from guard.

Sigfusson has momentary wrist control but Paris slips an elbow through the middle.
Paris is working Sigfusson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paris's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sigfusson is still in real trouble! Can Paris finish him?
Sigfusson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Paris postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Paris content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Paris distracts Sigfusson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Paris is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Paris connects with a couple of short punches.
Sigfusson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Paris gets to his feet and stands over Sigfusson, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Sigfusson felt that one! Paris unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Sigfusson from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jonh Paris!
