The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Polnareff closes the distance and clinches. Vela tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Polnareff smiles and moves away.
Vela tries to clinch up and Polnareff counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Vela (0) vs (2) Polnareff Vela had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Polnareff defends it easily. Polnareff must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Vela pulls Polnareff in close to prevent any damage. Vela keeping moving, preventing Polnareff from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
