Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steel Man! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Danis! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Danis fails with the takedown and Man makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Danis dives in for a single leg takedown but Man sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Man shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Danis is trying to defend but Man finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Man knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Danis on the ground. Danis tries to roll over but Man keeps him under control. Danis regains full guard. Nicely done. Danis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Man with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Man landing with the ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Man's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Man lands a couple of digs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Man chips away with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Danis doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Danis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Man looking to pass the guard. Man is in close to Danis's body, working some short punches and elbows. Danis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Danis is trying to control the position but Man postures up. Man scoring with some ground and pound. Man postures up and lands a big shot to Danis's brow. Danis keeping full guard, as Man tries to pass. Man lands a couple of digs. Danis is trying to control the position but Man postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Man stands up over Danis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Man landing some decent shots from guard. Man won't allow Danis to get back to his feet. Man looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Man scoring with punches to the head and body. Danis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Man manages to get himself to full guard.
Man pulls Danis in to control the position. Man wants to sweep but no luck. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Danis forces his way into half guard. Man on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Man tries to get out of the position. Danis missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Man is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Man is working hard here to advance position. Danis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Danis is trying to work for a kimura but Man is defending well.
Man is staying active underneath Danis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Danis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Danis in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Man tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Danis!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). David Danis! David Danis bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
