Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jese Gonzales ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Edward Locke! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Locke misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Gonzales tries to clinch and Locke counters with a series of strikes. Gonzales will be more careful next time no doubt. Gonzales throws a nice looking combination but Locke bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Gonzales tries to grapple but his opponent circles letting Locke counter with a right hand. Gonzales fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Locke sprawls well initially but Gonzales persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Gonzales keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Locke tries to roll over but Gonzales keeps him under control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Locke can do anything to dispel that myth. Gonzales uses his free foot to push down on Locke's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Locke. Locke should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gonzales controlling from the full mount. Gonzales putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gonzales controlling from mount. Locke tries to hold on but Gonzales postures up. Gonzales in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Locke wants to hold on but Gonzales pushes him away. Gonzales controlling the pace for now. Locke in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Locke taking shots to the head. Gonzales tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Gonzales seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Locke for as long as he can get away with. Gonzales has control of Locke's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Locke regains control of the situation pretty easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gonzales is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Gonzales extends the arm and Locke is forced to tap!
