PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ernest Sumabat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sumabat scores with a spinning back kick!
Rodriguez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Rodriguez swats away the attempt to clinch by Sumabat.
Rodriguez shoots for a double leg takedown but Sumabat sprawls well. He's pushed Rodriguez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sumabat displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
A head kick lands from Sumabat that sends Rodriguez to the canvas. Rodriguez tries to scramble back to his feet but Sumabat brings him back down into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sumabat wants to stand but Rodriguez has his arm trapped.

Rodriguez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Sumabat has managed to clinch.
Rodriguez seems to have recovered his senses.
Rodriguez gets underhooks to prevent Sumabat's takedown attempt.

Sumabat throws a front kick that sends Rodriguez stumbling back into the cage.
Sumabat tries to clinch up but Rodriguez circles away and keeps his distance.

Rodriguez slips a jab and a cross from Sumabat.

Sumabat tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rodriguez swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sumabat wants to stand but Rodriguez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodriguez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sumabat would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Sumabat stops Rodriguez from standing up.
Rodriguez is trying to keep Sumabat in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sumabat moves into range and clinches up with Rodriguez.

Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown but Sumabat shows good takedown defense.

Ernest Sumabat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Rodriguez.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rodriguez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sumabat pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rodriguez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sumabat lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rodriguez circles away quickly and effectively.

Rodriguez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sumabat tries to avoid it but Rodriguez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sumabat to the ground. Sumabat escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sumabat throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Sumabat turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Rodriguez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Sumabat tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rodriguez controls his leg.
Rodriguez is trying to maintain the position but Sumabat is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ernest Sumabat will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Rodriguez tries for a takedown but Sumabat sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sumabat breaks from the clinch.

Rodriguez has managed to clinch.

Sumabat has hold of one of Rodriguez's legs. Rodriguez is fighting the takedown attempt but Sumabat gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Rodriguez is looking for a triangle but Sumabat pushes his legs off easily.
Rodriguez seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rodriguez pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sumabat rushes Rodriguez and presses him up against the cage.

Sumabat breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sumabat swats away the attempt to clinch by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rodriguez avoids the head kick by Sumabat.
Rodriguez dodges the punch combination from Sumabat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Daniel Rodriguez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sumabat has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
