Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Avo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maximus Meridius has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Adam Avo's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adam Avo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maximus Meridius!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Avo lands in his opponent's guard.
Meridius keeping full guard, as Avo tries to pass.
Meridius keeping moving, preventing Avo from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Avo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Avo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Avo trying to control the position from guard on top but Meridius is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Avois looking to pass into half guard but Meridius pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Meridius is in guard.

Avo working for a triangle but Meridius defends it easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Avo looking for a guillotine here but Meridius defends easily.
Meridius tries to stand but Avo is controlling from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Avo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Meridius is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Avo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Meridius's back instead.
Avo is breathing heavily.
Meridius wants to get back to his feet.

Avo looking for the RNC.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Meridius is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Avo gets his way!
Avo throws a series of strikes and Meridius wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You get the feeling that Meridius really doesn't like being in this position too much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Avo dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Meridius tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Meridius throws a body punch but Avo moves out of range.
Avo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Meridius doesn't manage to clinch there - Avo circles away.
Avo tries for a takedown but Meridius sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Meridius, right into the meat.
Avo sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Meridius throws a head kick but Avo moves out of range.

Meridius keeps Avo at a distance using the push kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Avo crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Meridius - the referee stops the clock and Avo gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Meridius. Avo manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Meridius.

Meridius lands a nice leg kick that just misses Avo's sensitive parts.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Meridius sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Avo to the ground! Meridius dives into full mount looking to finish!


It looks like Adam Avo has been cut.
Avo is desperately trying to improve his position but Meridius has a good base and remains in mount.
Avo tries to lock up and control but Meridius gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Avo is looking to get to half guard.
Meridius avoids the attempt from Avo to control.

Meridius is looking to stand but Meridius has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Avo throwing hammer fists to the chest of Meridius. What's that going to do exactly?
Avo tries to hold on but Meridius postures up.
Meridius is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

Avo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Meridius is looking to stand but Meridius has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Avo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Avo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Meridius tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Avo controls the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Avo is desperately trying to improve his position but Meridius has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maximus Meridius showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Adam Avo's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Avo chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Meridius can pounce on him.
Meridius wants to clinch up but Avo keeps it at a distance.

Avo shoots for a double leg takedown but Meridius sprawls well. He's pushed Avo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Avo closes the distance and clinches up with Meridius, looking for a takedown. Avo pushes Meridius against the cage but Meridius circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
