Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitchell Joseph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Lyoto Machida was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitchell Joseph! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoto Machida! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machida keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Oh, that's a big right hand from Joseph and Machida goes tumbling to the canvas! Joseph follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Machida is rocked!
It looks like Lyoto Machida has been cut. Joseph content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Machida is looking to control Joseph's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Machida avoid being mounted? Joseph not doing much here.
Machida is not content to let Joseph control the position. Machida is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joseph wants to stand but Machida has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Machida is refusing to be controlled, as Joseph sits in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Machida wants to improve his position but Joseph is controlling well.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Joseph throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Machida shoots in looking for a takedown. Joseph tries to sprawl out of it but Machida keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Joseph manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Joseph throws a right and a left that Machida avoids nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Joseph misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Machida fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Machida darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Joseph is looking to control Machida's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Joseph avoid being mounted? Joseph is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Machida jumps into side control! Machida trying to control the action but Joseph is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machida decides to stand back up. Machida tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Joseph paws at him with a jab and circles away. Joseph throws a leg kick but Machida moved away. Joseph misses with a low kick. Joseph pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Machida lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Joseph backs up against the cage.
Joseph connects with a body shot. Machida moves in looking to clinch but Joseph pushes him off. Mitchell Joseph is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Joseph does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Joseph misses with an uppercut. Machida saw that one coming. A head kick misses from Joseph.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Joseph lands a high kick to the side of Machida's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Joseph dives into guard, looking to finish. Machida is still in real trouble! Can Joseph finish him? The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Joseph preventing the sweep. Machida seems to have recovered his senses. Joseph tries to free his leg and advance position but Machida is retaining full guard. Machida is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Joseph forces his way into half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Joseph thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Machida's head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mitchell Joseph dominated that round. The cut man is working on Lyoto Machida's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Joseph shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Machida blocks a low kick nicely. Machida lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Joseph circles away quickly and effectively. Joseph drops Machida with a big left hand and mounts him. Machida is in big trouble!
That has opened up Lyoto Machida's cut even more. Joseph prevents Machida from getting the reversal. Machida bucks up and throws Joseph to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Joseph misses with a wild body shot. Machida closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Joseph to the mat! Joseph manages to get full guard. Joseph seems keen to control Machida's posture. Joseph is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Machida is breathing heavily. Machida won't allow Joseph to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joseph wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Machida wants to pass the guard but Joseph is keeping the position. Joseph bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Machida's guard. Machida trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Joseph not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Joseph trying to control but Machida is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joseph has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Machida is proving hard to escape from. Joseph trying to control but Machida is working from the bottom. Machida wants to stand up but Joseph is controlling him.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A punch combination from Machida misses. A head kick misses from Joseph. Machida checks a leg kick nicely. Joseph misses with a low kick as Machida jumps back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Joseph throws a hook but Machida blocks it. Joseph looks to throw the jab but Machida is out of range. Machida drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Machida lands a decent elbow from side control. Machida decides to take the fight back to the feet. Joseph throws a head kick but Machida moves out of range.
Joseph throws a jab when Machida was well out of range. Joseph throws a sloppy head kick and Machida moves out of range easily. Machida bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. The fighters circle momentarily. Joseph darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mitchell Joseph dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Lyoto Machida's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Excellent takedown into side control there by Machida. Joseph wants to control but Machida postures up. Machida goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Joseph has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Machida but great work by Joseph. Joseph is chipping away with strikes.
Joseph stands up and we're back to a striking position. Joseph chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Machida can pounce on him.

Joseph tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Machida looks for the body kick but Joseph saw that one coming.
That's one minute gone in the round. Machida scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Machida takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Machida stands up and beckons Joseph to join him on the feet. Machida rushes Joseph and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Joseph taking a breather. Machida is working for takedown but Joseph is calmly controlling the position for now. Joseph is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Joseph crunches a lovely knee into Machida's ribcage. Joseph breaks from the clinch.

Joseph scores with a slapping inside leg kick. A jab from Joseph finds it's way through Machida's defenses. Joseph thows a leg kick but Machida checks it and Machida counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Machida. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Joseph wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Machida is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Joseph is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Joseph has escaped and now he's on top! Joseph passes Machida's left leg - he's now in half guard. Joseph perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Joseph stands up out of the half guard. Lyoto Machida is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A head kick misses from Joseph. Joseph misses with a hook. Joseph misses with a wild body shot. Joseph changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Joseph misses with a head kick.

Joseph tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Machida connects with a solid leg kick. Machida closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Machida fails to land a wild elbow strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action here. Joseph can't do much from the bottom here. Joseph is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Joseph works his way to full guard. Good work. Joseph throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Machida escapes and throws Joseph's legs to the side, diving into side control! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Machida moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mitchell Joseph. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Joseph, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
