Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akhmatbek Zholdoshev (ranked 4295 p4p, 418 weight class) and Douglas Dannis (ranked 2950 p4p, 308 weight class). Akhmatbek Zholdoshev could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Douglas Dannis's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Akhmatbek Zholdoshev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Douglas Dannis!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zholdoshev swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Dannis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Zholdoshev tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dannis looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Dannis lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Zholdoshev really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Dannis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Zholdoshev bucks up and tries to throw Dannis off but instead Dannis has got his back!
My spies in Navy Street MMA inform me that Dannis has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Dannis is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dannis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Zholdoshev trying to get back to his feet but Dannis is in full control for now.
Dannis keeps control of the position easily here as Zholdoshev tries to buck him off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, with Dannis on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Zholdoshev is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Zholdoshev is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Dannis is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Dannis gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Dannis gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Dannis apologises and we restart here on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

A frustrated look appears on Zholdoshev's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Dannis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Zholdoshev can't fight it off and eventually Dannis manages to take the fight to the floor. Zholdoshev looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Zholdoshev wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Dannis manages to pass to side control.

Let's hope that Dannis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Dannis.
Zholdoshev pushes Dannis off looking to stand but Dannis dives back in and keeps control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
More stalling from Dannis.
Zholdoshev is looking to get back to is feet but Dannis passes into side control.
Zholdoshev wants to get back to his feet.
Dannis landing strikes.
The referee asks Dannis politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Dannis prefers to stall for the moment though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Zholdoshev takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Dannis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Dannis counters with a stiff right hand.
Zholdoshev swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Zholdoshev throws a sloppy head kick and Dannis moves out of range easily.

Dannis shoots in and bounces Zholdoshev off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Zholdoshev is looking to stand back up but Dannis counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Zholdoshev.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zholdoshev is trying to stand.

Dannis content just to control the position here.
Dannis is continuing to stall.
Dannis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Zholdoshev squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Dannis looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The adventures of Dannis the control monster continue. Boring.
Dannis scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Dannis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Dannis looking to finish Zholdoshev with some ground and pound. This is bad for Zholdoshev!

Dannis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Zholdoshev looks a forlorn figure.
The referee warns Zholdoshev that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Dannis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Zholdoshev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Dannis lands with an uppercut that bounces Zholdoshev off the cage and back into range.
Zholdoshev throws a head kick but Dannis moves out of range.

and Dannis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dannis.

Zholdoshev wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dannis has him pressed against the cage.
Zholdoshev looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Zholdoshev is looking to break free of the clinch but Dannis has double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dannis pulls Zholdoshev into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dannis is on top in guard.

Dannis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Dannis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Dannis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Dannis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Zholdoshev pushes Dannis off but Dannis dives into side control.
Dannis content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Yet more stalling tactics from Dannis.

Zholdoshev is wriggling around trying to escape but Dannis has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! Zholdoshev taps out and Dannis picks up the big win! Great work there by Dannis!
