Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 2339 p4p, 277 weight class) and Judas Priest (ranked 2207 p4p, 266 weight class). Gracie comes to the ring accompanied by Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Judas Priest was going to win. Let's see if he was right.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 3 losses; Royce Gracie! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 3 losses; Judas Priest! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Priest instigates a clinch. Priest is trying to trip Gracie. He has hold of a leg but Gracie is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Priest persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Gracie (0) vs (2) Priest Gracie keeping moving, preventing Priest from controlling successfully. Priest might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gracie haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Priest not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Priest trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Priest pushing down on Gracie's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Priest is looking to advance position but Gracie won't allow it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gracie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Priest looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Priest is thwarting Gracie's attempts to control the position.

Priest perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Gracie won't allow Priest to pass to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Priest is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gracie doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Priest. Priest trying to control from half guard but Gracie is working away. Well, if Priest is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Gracie is refusing to be controlled, as Priest sits in half guard. Priest stalling. Priest is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Priest is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Gracie seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Priest trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Priest slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Priest trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Priest trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom. Priest pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Priest is stalling in the full guard. Priest wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position. Priest is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Priest trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Priest tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Priest is looking to pass into half guard but Gracie pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Gracie is in guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Gracie (2) vs (2) Priest Priest looking for a guillotine here but Gracie defends easily.
Priest is trying to hold Gracie in close to prevent damage but Gracie has managed to pass into half guard.
Priest is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Priest knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gracie trying to control the action but Priest is working from the bottom. Priest trying to control from the bottom.
Priest is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Priest has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though. Priest has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Priest tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg. Priest is still trying to improve position. Priest is looking to get back to full guard here but Gracie has managed to pass to side control instead. Score +3 for passing guard: Gracie (5) vs (2) Priest Priest is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Priest is looking for a sweep. Priest can't do much from the bottom here. Gracie controlling from side mount. Well,Gracie is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Priest is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it. Priest is looking to reverse the position. Priest is not content to let Gracie control the position. Priest tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Priest is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Priest is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Priest is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Gracie trying to control but Priest is working from the bottom. Gracie stopping the sweep attempt from Priest. Priest trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie passes Priest's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Gracie stalling. Priest wants to get back to full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Priest is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Priest avoid being mounted?
And that's the end of the fight! Gracie takes the fight on points by 5 to 2. Royce Gracie is the new middleweight champion! An out of breath Royce Gracie thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. |
