Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between DeMario Valdez (ranked 119 p4p, 17 weight class) and Ernest Graves (ranked 240 p4p, 30 weight class). Valdez comes to the cage accompanied by Era - Ameno. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Ernest Graves enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, DeMario Valdez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ernest Graves! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Graves scores with a hook to the body. Valdez takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Valdez missing with a left hand there. Graves was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Graves let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. We've been told by Valdez's head coaches at Crassus that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Graves looking to score a takedown here. Valdez is defending well but Graves drives through and ends up in Valdez's guard. Graves is pushing down on Valdez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Valdez is fighting to maintain full guard but Graves has managed to sneak the leg through. Graves is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Graves trying to move into half guard but instead Valdez has managed to sweep! Graves tries to land a sweep but no joy. Graves working for a triangle but Valdez defends it easily.
Graves wants to sweep here but Valdez controlling him for the moment. Valdez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Graves looking to hit a scissor sweep but Valdez is one step ahead there. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Graves holds on and takes a little breather. Valdez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Graves lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Graves passes Valdez's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Valdez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Graves on the ground. Graves trying to control from half guard but Valdez is working away. Graves is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Valdez! Graves wants to control the pace but Valdez is squirming around nicely. Graves is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Graves trying to control but Valdez is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Valdez wants to hold on but Graves pushes him away. Graves looking to control but Valdez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Graves working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Graves is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Valdez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Valdez! Graves wants to sweep but no luck. Graves looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Valdez puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Graves wants to get back to full guard. Graves is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Valdez pulls his head out easily. Valdez keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Graves felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Valdez prevents Graves from improving his position. Graves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Valdez is working away from the top position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Graves lands with a good body shot. Graves ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Valdez misses with a hook. Valdez looks to land a right hand but Graves moved out of range. Graves appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Graves looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Graves is looking to pass Valdez's guard but actually Valdez recovers to full guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Graves's corner. There ya go! There ya go! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valdez keeping full guard, as Graves tries to pass. Graves is looking to advance position but Valdez has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Graves manages to regain half guard. Good work. Graves is looking to control Valdez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Graves avoid being mounted? Valdez prevents Graves from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Graves trying to get back to full guard but Valdez takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Ernest Graves has got the better of the ground game so far. Graves is trying to escape the mount.
Graves sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Graves actively working from the bottom here. Valdez is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Graves trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Valdez manages to pass to mount!
Valdez prevents Graves from getting the reversal. Graves gets back to half guard. Graves wants to get back to full guard. Graves wants to control but Valdez is keeping busy and won't allow it. Graves is trying to get back to full guard. Graves is still trying to improve position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Graves is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Graves keeps trying to improve his position. Valdez is controlling the pace.

A close second round but Ernest Graves will probably get the nod - 10:9. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Graves jabbing away but nothing is landing. Valdez throws a half hearted mid kick. Graves misses the shot to the body. Graves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A little feinted left hand from Valdez on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Graves misses the shot to the body. Graves connects with a body shot that sends Valdez's belly button to the back. Graves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Valdez manages to avoid it. It looked like Valdez was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Graves. Graves moves out of range as Valdez strikes. Graves swings widly with a right hand
enabling Valdez to counter with a crisp jab. Graves has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Valdez misses with a head kick.

and Valdez counters with a nice body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valdez on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Graves looking for a takedown here - he's got it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Graves stands and throws Valdez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Graves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Valdez keeps working. Graves tries for a kimura but Valdez is defending well. Valdez prevents Graves from moving into mount. Graves advances nicely into full mount. Graves wants to take Valdez's back but he can't do it this time. Graves goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Valdez turns into him and now he's in Graves's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Valdez stopping the sweep attempt from Graves. Graves looking for a guillotine here but Valdez defends easily.
Valdez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Graves wants to sweep here but Valdez controlling him for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valdez trying to control the position from guard on top but Graves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Graves trying to keep a closed guard but Valdez is proving a slippery customer.
Graves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Graves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Valdez defends well. Graves looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Graves working a defensive guard here.

And that's the end of the fight! Ernest Graves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Graves has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
