Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyle Alzado (ranked 692 p4p, 89 weight class) and Scott John (ranked 675 p4p, 87 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alzado shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and John counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Alzado's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Alzado duly obliges.
John misses with a looping right.
Alzado throws a series of punches but John moves out of range.
Nice body punch from Alzado.
Alzado throws a hook but John blocks it.
John replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Alzado blocks it well.
John throws an overhand right that lands on Alzado's shoulder, as Alzado tries to avoid the shot.
Sloppy strikes from Alzado. Those never looked like landing.
Alzado lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but John circles away quickly and effectively.
Alzado shoots in and bounces John off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

John wants to sweep but no luck.
Alzado has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alzado accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
John looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

John wants to improve his position but Alzado is controlling well.

John tries to get the hooks in deep but Alzado pushed the leg off.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
John throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Alzado staying busy and making it hard for John to control.

John somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Scott John will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Alzado checks a leg kick.

John scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alzado throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Alzado slips a straight right by John.
Alzado avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Nice uppercut there from Alzado.
Some bone on bone action there as Alzado checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
John goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
John misses with a body kick.
Alzado clobbers John with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Good leg kick by John there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Good exchange - Alzado coming out on top.
Alzado lands a nice looking kick to the body. John takes a step back to recover.
A left lands for John.
Alzado closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Alzado lands in his opponent's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Alzado arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! John's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
