Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Omar Al Boleahi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Kyung Joong Ho! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Al Boleahi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Joong Ho tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Al Boleahi paws at him with a jab and circles away. Al Boleahi fails with a takedown attempt. A head kick lands from Joong Ho that sends Al Boleahi to the canvas. Al Boleahi tries to scramble back to his feet but Joong Ho brings him back down into side control.
Al Boleahi is rocked!
It looks like Omar Al Boleahi has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Joong Ho decides to take the fight back to the feet. Oh Al Boleahi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Joong Ho tries to clinch up. Al Boleahi seems to have got his legs back now. Al Boleahi keeps the fight on the outside. Al Boleahi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Joong Ho sprawls well. Joong Ho wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Al Boleahi gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Omar Al Boleahi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Joong Ho closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Joong Ho's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Joong Ho tries to clinch up but Al Boleahi circles away and keeps his distance. Joong Ho moves in looking to clinch but Al Boleahi pushes him off. Al Boleahi throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Joong Ho was covering up waiting for the punch and Al Boleahi finishes the takedown easily into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Joong Ho is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Joong Ho wriggles free and stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Al Boleahi dodges the punch combination from Joong Ho.
Joong Ho tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Al Boleahi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Al Boleahi closes the distance and clinches up with Joong Ho, looking for a takedown. Al Boleahi pushes Joong Ho against the cage but Joong Ho circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Al Boleahi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Joong Ho pinned against the cage. Joong Ho gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Al Boleahi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Al Boleahi showed some decent athleticism there. Joong Ho is trying to stand up here but Al Boleahi is controlling him well. Al Boleahi working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Joong Ho looks like he's trying to stand up.
Al Boleahi lands with a punch from half guard. Joong Ho is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Al Boleahi scores with a couple of nice shots. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Joong Ho is looking to escape. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joong Ho is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Al Boleahi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Joong Ho with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Al Boleahi working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Joong Ho pushes Al Boleahi off looking to stand but Al Boleahi dives back in and keeps control.
Al Boleahi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Joong Ho has hold of Al Boleahi's hands but Al Boleahi slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Joong Ho is rocked! Al Boleahi prevents Joong Ho from standing back up.
Joong Ho is still in real trouble! Can Al Boleahi finish him? Al Boleahi lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Al Boleahi scores with a big shot! Joong Ho's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Joong Ho! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Omar Al Boleahi!
