PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cameron Betts (ranked 4890 p4p, 238 weight class) and Doadan Beachgon (ranked 24742 p4p, 315 weight class). Betts comes to the cage accompanied by household name . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Doadan Beachgon!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Betts gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Beachgon throws a strike but Betts rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Betts lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Beachgon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Betts controls the pace.

Betts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Beachgon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Betts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Beachgon has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Betts uses from the top position.

Beachgon wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Beachgon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Betts swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Beachgon dives in and grabs Betts's left leg, looking for a takedown. Betts pushes down on Beachgon's head and hops out.
Betts throws a body shot but no joy.
Beachgon takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Betts tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Beachgon throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Betts's head.

Beachgon throws a nice looking combination but Betts bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Beachgon pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Betts back to the cage. Beachgon follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Betts throws a hook but Beachgon blocks it.
Beachgon throws a sloppy head kick and Betts moves out of range easily.
Beachgon goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Betts throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Betts fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Beachgon shoots in looking for a takedown but Betts manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Beachgon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cameron Betts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doadan Beachgon.

Betts really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Betts manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Beachgon on his heels. He'll look to pass Beachgon's guard now, I'm sure.
Betts is in close to Beachgon's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Betts postures up in Beachgon's guard and throws a big left but Beachgon blocks it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Betts accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Betts throws a strike but Beachgon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Betts has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Beachgon has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Beachgon connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Betts's hands.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cameron Betts will probably get the nod.
