Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Urijah Faber (ranked 3210 p4p, 175 weight class) and Denis Denisov (ranked 2625 p4p, 144 weight class). Denis Denisov has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Urijah Faber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Denis Denisov! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick by Faber misses and Denisov counters with a stiff right hand. Denisov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. And Faber counters with a quick kick to the body but Denisov blocks it. Denisov connects with a body shot that sends Faber's belly button to the back. Faber gets a double leg takedown into Denisov's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Faber stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Denisov swivels though and keeps the full guard. Faber is standing up over Denisov. Denisov looks to escape but Faber dives into side control.
Denisov is trying to work for a sweep but Faber has mounted him! Denisov keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Denisov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Denisov really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Denisov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Faber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Denisov wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Denisov trying to control the hands but Faber won't let him. Faber misses with a punch to the head. Denisov can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Faber lands with a hammerfist to the side of Denisov's head. Faber missing with strikes. Denisov trying to get back to his feet but Faber is in full control for now. Faber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Faber tries to get the hooks in deep but Denisov pushed the leg off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Faber is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Denisov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Denisov for a finish. Faber avoiding Denisov 's attempts to control his hands. Denisov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Faber's guard. Nice work there by Denisov.
Faber is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Denisov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Faber is keeping the position for now. Faber not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
My spies in Island Sparring inform me that Denisov has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Denisov sitting in guard, not really doing much. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Urijah Faber dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Faber slaps away a takedown attempt from Denisov, before circling back to the center of the mat. Faber tries to counter by clinching up but Denisov breaks away and moves out of range. Nice takedown defense from Faber. No joy for Denisov on that attempt. Horrible takedown attempt by Denisov or perhaps it was just good defense by Faber, which made it look bad. Urijah Faber has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denis Denisov. Denisov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Faber, pushing him back against the cage. Denisov tries to pull guard but Faber holds him up against the cage and eventually Denisov drops back down to his feet.
Denisov drops down looking for an ankle pick but Faber pulls his leg out and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Faber looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Denisov lands a decent punch to the body there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Faber throwing strikes from guard but Denisov blocks nicely. Denisov striking from his own guard. Faber stopping the sweep attempt from Denisov. Faber throwing strikes but missing. Denisov throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Faber is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Denisov can do to turn this around? Denisov controlling Faber's posture. Denisov wants to sweep here but Faber controlling him for the moment. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Denisov can do anything to dispel that myth. Denisov is striking from the bottom but Faber uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Faber is looking to take a break and control but Denisov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Urijah Faber overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Faber passes to full mount! Denisov is just holding on here. Faber manages to take his back.
Denisov trying to control the hands but Faber breaks the grip. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Denisov tries to escape but Faber has the hooks in and won't let him break free. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Urijah Faber dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Faber changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Denisov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Denisov sneaks out the side door and pushes Faber away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Faber tries a head kick but it misses.
Denisov looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Denisov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Faber's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Denisov with a nice head shot there. Faber is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Faber keeping moving, preventing Denisov from controlling successfully. Denisov postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Denis Denisov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Denisov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Faber is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Denisov is aware though and is defending well. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Denisov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Denisov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Denisov trying to control the position from guard on top but Faber is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Faber bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Denisov's guard. Denisov doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back. Denisov controls Faber momentarily but Faber frees himself. Denisov throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Denisov will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
