Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Damarius Lawerence (ranked 4728 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabinho Tavares (ranked 6167 p4p, 525 weight class). Lawerence comes to the cage accompanied by Taylor Swift - Shake It Off. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawerence drives through and clinches with Tavares against the cage.
Lawerence blocks a body shot from Tavares.
Tavares is trying to break the clinch but Lawerence has him pressed against the cage.
Tavares drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lawerence gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Lawerence pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tavares connects with an inside leg kick.
Tavares is looking to land body kicks.
As Tavares looks to move away, Lawerence throws a big counter combo but Tavares just gets out of the way.
Lawerence lets loose with a powerful body kick. Tavares will feel that in the morning.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tavares letting Lawerence take a breather here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lawerence breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fabinho Tavares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Lawerence or perhaps it was just good defense by Tavares, which made it look bad.
Lawerence fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Fabinho Tavares is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Lawerence shoots in and gets a takedown into Tavares's guard.

Tavares has his foot on Lawerence's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lawerence works his way back into a safe position though.

Lawerence has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Tavares is looking to cinch up a triangle. Lawerence throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Tavares's body to avoid the submission. Tavares has instead reached around Lawerence's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Tavares arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Fabinho Tavares!
Fabinho Tavares was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
