PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Crunch (ranked 4702 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Vader (ranked 7228 p4p, 0 weight class). Luke Vader told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Crunch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Luke Vader!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Vader counter with a right hand.


It looks like Jack Crunch has been cut.

Crunch clinches with his opponent.
Vader looking to throw knees to the head but Crunch is blocking nicely.
Vader tries to pull guard but Crunch forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Crunch wants to break free but Vader has control.
Crunch prevents a takedown attempt there.

Vader's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Crunch pushes Vader up against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crunch is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Vader is stalling here.
Vader throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Crunch is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jack Crunch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Vader.

Vader breaks the clinch.

Vader gets tackled into the cage by Crunch. Crunch maintains the clinch.

Vader pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Crunch stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Crunch wants it to stay on the feet.

Vader escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Vader looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Crunch is fending him off so far but Vader persists. Nope, Crunch circles away and we're back to standing.

Vader takes the fight into the clinch.
Vader manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Crunch tries a body shot but Vader blocks it.

Vader has Crunch pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Crunch manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Crunch makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Crunch gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vader.
Vader tries to pull guard but Crunch holds him up against the cage and eventually Vader drops back down to his feet.

Vader lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Crunch or not.

Vader has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Crunch uses from the top position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vader seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Crunch won't allow Vader to get back to his feet.
Crunch postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Vader is pulling down on Crunch's head. It's preventing any offense from Crunch, at least for the moment.
Crunch advances position into side control!
Vader tries to buck Crunch off but Crunch is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Crunch wants to control but Vader is keeping him busy.
Vader manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Vader scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Vader is looking for a kimura here.
Crunch is looking to control Vader's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Crunch avoid being mounted?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vader stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Crunch's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Vader counters with a nice body shot.
Vader fails with a takedown attempt.
Jack Crunch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Crunch clinches up against the cage.
Crunch blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Crunch wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Vader has him pressed against the cage.

Crunch tries to break the clinch but Vader is controlling the position.

Vader pulls Crunch into guard.
Crunch wanted to stand there but Vader had control of the position.
Vader is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vader is looking to advance position but Crunch won't allow it.
Crunch has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vader is working away from the top position though.

Vader moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Crunch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Luke Vader showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Vader tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Crunch displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vader.

Vader looks for the body kick but Crunch saw that one coming.
Crunch looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Vader shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Crunch as he avoids it easily.
Jack Crunch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Crunch is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jack Crunch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Vader.
Vader keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Crunch's efforts to push away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vader escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No joy there for Crunch, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A nice side step and Vader releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Crunch fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vader, pushing him back against the cage.

Crunch dodges an elbow strike from Vader.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Vader has clasped his hands together around Crunch's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Crunch avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vader.
Vader working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Vader is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Crunch will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Crunch wants to control but Vader postures up.
Crunch tries to bench press Vader off him but Vader keeps the position.

Crunch wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Crunch being controlled for a moment.
Crunch takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Crunch wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Vader tries to advance to mount but Crunch denies him.

Crunch tries to bench press Vader off him but Vader keeps the position.
Crunch prevents Vader from improving position.
Vader is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Vader is trying to get an arm triangle but Crunch is defending well.
Crunch is trying to escape the position but Vader is controlling the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Crunch has managed to clinch.

Vader manages to break the clinch.
Vader darts in looking for a takedown but Crunch gets double underhooks and turns Vader into the cage.
Vader shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Crunch as he avoids it easily.
Crunch attempts a counter takedown but Vader avoids it well and moves away.
Crunch throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Vader shoots for a takedown but Crunch saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Vader throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Crunch tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Vader is in Crunch's guard.

Luke Vader is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Vader content to stall in guard here.

I would just about give that final round to Luke Vader.
I've got Vader winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
