Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fumito Makino (ranked 3465 p4p, 307 weight class) and Uadab Santiago (ranked 4052 p4p, 346 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fumito Makino! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Uadab Santiago! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santiago's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Makino connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Santiago scrambles back to his feet. A combination from Makino does no damage. Makino lands a slapping body shot.
Makino connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Donk. Makino catches Santiago right on the button with a cross. Nice cross by Makino. Makino fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Santiago looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. We've been told by Makino's head coaches at The Forge that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Santiago fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Santiago with a poor takedown and Makino counters with a nice body shot. Santiago takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Santiago goes for a double leg but Makino avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Makino continues to drive forward. Fumito Makino has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Uadab Santiago. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Makino lands with a straight right. Santiago didn't see that one coming. Makino fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Santiago looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. A decent looking cross lands there for Makino. That's one minute gone in the round. Makino works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Makino pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Santiago back to the cage. Makino follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. A jab from Makino finds it's way through Santiago's defenses. Makino throws a series of strikes that have Santiago backpedaling.
Makino cracks Santiago with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Santiago takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Makino's corner calls for a 1-2. Makino obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Fumito Makino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Makino scores with a crisp jab that stopped Santiago in his tracks. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Makino looks to land a combination. Santiago sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Makino is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Santiago takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Santiago shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Makino is looking for a counter combo. Makino fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Makino avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Makino works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Santiago throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Makino's waist but Makino gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santiago off to one side. Makino comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jab from Makino. Makino dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Santiago will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Makino swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Santiago. Makino lands the left hand. Santiago takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Makino scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Makino fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Makino lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Nice body punch from Makino. Makino scores with a jab. Makino throws a right hand that Santiago ducks under and follows up with a left that Santiago also avoids with ease. Santiago is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Makino lands a nice hook to Santiago's body. Santiago takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Makino lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Makino connects with a crisp jab. Santiago fails with the takedown. Makino lands the left hand. Makino feints a jab promting Santiago to slip. Makino then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Santiago slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Santiago fails with a takedown attempt. As Santiago looks to move away, Makino throws a big counter combo but Santiago just gets out of the way. Makino throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Makino moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Makino stalks Santiago and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Santiago's face. Santiago staggers backwards, shaken. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fumito Makino dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Santiago has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Makino catches Santiago with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Good shot there by Makino. Santiago tries for a takedown but Makino circles away easily and Makino counters with a lovely straight right hand! Makino jabs Santiago to the body, keeping him at a distance. This has been an exciting period of action! Santiago shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Makino sprawls well. Makino wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Santiago gets slowly back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Santiago is defended easily by Makino. Makino throwing a counter right hand but Santiago manages to avoid it. Jab from Makino. Makino lands a nice shot to the body.

Fumito Makino is winning the standup battle so far. Makino defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Santiago.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Makino displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Santiago. Santiago is breathing heavily. Santiago gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Makino displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Santiago is trying desperately to land a takedown but Makino is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Santiago. Makino throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Santiago takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Makino wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Makino lunges at Santiago with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Santiago's hand. Santiago shoots in and bounces Makino off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Makino is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Santiago trying to control the position from guard on top but Makino is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santiago drops back looking for a leg! Makino is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Makino manages to kick Santiago off! Santiago jumps back into Makino's guard. Makino is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Santiago thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Santiago wants to control from the top but Makino keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fumito Makino dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Santiago has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Makino finds it's way round the side to connect with Santiago's head. Makino throws a combination. Santiago tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Makino is working the combinations to good effect here. Santiago shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Makino cracks a nice hook into Santiago's ribs. Santiago tries to clinch but Makino moves out of range. Makino scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Santiago drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! You can see the frustration on Makino's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Makino is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Makino is trying to control Santiago's posture but Santiago avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santiago tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Santiago has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santiago is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Makino looks calm but he's in trouble here. Santiago gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Makino is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Santiago lets go of the hold and Makino can pop his arm back in it's socket.
